Local Workforce Contributes to the Success of the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2023

Lombok, October 14, 2023 - The Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2023 event has officially begun. Local workers have been utilized to ensure the success of the global racing event on Saturday, October 14, 2023.

Local workers assisting in the event have been assigned various roles, including gatekeepers, hospitality crew, marshals, and other supporting roles, all originating from Lombok. Some of these local workers share exciting stories and experiences as they become a part of the grand celebration, the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2023.

One of the VIP Royal Box gatekeepers, Satria Kastaguna, expressed his joy joining and becoming a part of this event. He mentioned that the event provided him with an extraordinary experience and valuable connections that will benefit him in the future.

"I am very proud that MotoGP is taking place at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit. I have gained numerous connections and experiences. And I have had the chance to meet riders from various countries. Moreover, I get to watch the races inside the circuit for free. As a student at Poltekpar, especially in the tourism field, we should frequently engage in tourism-related activities and handle events like this. As young individuals, we should also be involved in major events or future events at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit," he explained.

Vega, the crew coordinator usher, also mentioned that the local workforce's involvement in this international event has contributed to the local residents’ income.

"Here, I coordinate around 49 ushers and LOs, and the presence of MotoGP in Mandalika has had a significant impact, especially on the local residents in NTB. It is not just the ushers and LOs involved; there are also catering staff, other hospitality workers, and many other segments that can join and benefit from this event," she said.

This event has also positively impact Nurul’s income, who works as a sanitation worker at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit.

"For someone like me who was unemployed and could find work for 12 days, I am grateful to have an income to support my children and provide them with meals. Events like this, where we work like this, they offer us drinks. Sweeping is paid, and we receive meals. Hopefully, there will be more significant events like this in the future," she said.

VP of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, conveyed that one of the reasons Pertamina fully supports the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2023 is to increase the local workforce's involvement.

"Last year's event successfully employed up to 4,600 local workers. This year, we hope to have even more, further boosting the local economy in Lombok," Fadjar said.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
