Dubai, March 20, 2022 – As an energy company active globally, PT Pertamina (Persero) reaffirms its commitment as a company that cares about environmental, social, and good corporate governance. One of them is shown by setting the energy transition program as the company's top priority.
Pertamina plays a significant role in leading Indonesia's energy industry transition by focusing on the energy mix and reducing emissions. Pertamina targets a more comprehensive reduction of GHG emissions by 30% before 2030. In addition, Pertamina will prioritize New and Renewable Energy (NRE) development to address environmental problems, which is in line with Indonesia's Energy Mix by 2030.
Pertamina also supports the Government of Indonesia in the G20 Presidency, which has chosen the energy transition as one of its main priorities. As part of The Business 20 Task Force on Energy, Sustainability, and Climate, Pertamina has the same priorities as the G20 Indonesia. Pertamina must be a catalyst for green recovery and follows security, energy equity, and environmental sustainability principles.
"Pertamina is committed to be known not only as a global energy player but also as a company that is
environmentally friendly, socially responsible, and upholds good corporate governance," said Nicke Widyawati, CEO of PT Pertamina (Persero), at the Indonesia Pavilion at the Dubai Expo, Friday (18/3).
To achieve this, Pertamina has formed a Sustainability Committee in 2021, which is chaired directly by the CEO of Pertamina. This committee pays attention to global energy issues, including energy transition programs.
Nicke said Pertamina's efforts to develop environmentally friendly and sustainable energy were carried out in 8 strategic initiatives. It includes green refineries development, bioenergy development, hydrogen commercialization, gasification, battery ecosystems initiation, integrated energy storage, and increasing geothermal installed capacity.
"We believe that Indonesia's abundant geothermal resources scattered in the ring of fire can be a strong backbone to accelerate the energy transition, which is in line with the Indonesian government's goal of achieving net-zero emissions," said Nicke.**
