Go Green, Pertamina Targets on Reducing Carbon Emissions of 34 Thousand Tons per Year from 5000 PLTS GES

Jakarta, September 2, 2021 – Pertamina continues the go green efforts by installing Solar Power Plants (PLTS) at Green Energy Stations (GES) spread across various archipelago regions to reduce carbon emissions. Currently, PLTS has been installed at 76 GES points located in Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara and will be expanded to 5000 points.

GES is a new concept for Pertamina gas stations. Gas stations will provide integrated services to support a more environmentally friendly lifestyle for gas station consumers by utilizing Solar Photo Voltaic (PV) or PLTS as an independent and environmentally friendly energy source.

“This project is part of the energy transition in Pertamina ecosystem. We are targeting the installation of PLTS internally in Pertamina, both in core processes, offices, and other facilities. In addition, we strive to make gas stations as one of Pertamina’s frontlines to install PLTS to support decarbonization,” explained PNRE’s Chief Executive Officer, Dannif Danusaputro.

This effort is a continuation of 2020 program, where the installation of PLTS has been carried out at 63 Pertamina gas stations located across Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara, with a total capacity of 385 KWp. With a target of 5000 PLTS installed at gas stations, the total installed capacity is around 31 MW, and the potential for reducing carbon emissions reaches 34 thousand tons per year.

The use of PLTS at gas stations shows the global trend. For example, at least 700 gas stations in 29 African countries have used rooftop solar power plants. In India, at least PLTS has been installed with a total capacity of 270 MWp, and the government is targeting 50 percent of all gas stations in the country to install PLTS in the next 4 years. With this trend, Pertamina will exert its best efforts on green gas stations actively.

Pertamina supports the government’s target to reduce carbon emissions by 29 percent by 2030 through the energy transition. In its energy transition roadmap, Pertamina targets green energy to reach 17 percent of its business portfolio by 2030.
“PNRE will continue to step on the gas for the energy transition. We see that the development of clean energy, including PLTS, is an investment in the future so that the rate of climate change impacts can be restrained, and together all parties contribute to create a better life for future generations,” continued Dannif.

ESG (environment, social, and governance) aspects are integrated with Pertamina’s business. As part of the global community, Pertamina strives to run its business responsibly and sustainably, prioritizing business interests and the needs of stakeholders, society, and environmental sustainability.
