Lombok, September 27, 2024 – Tourists from various countries gathered at Circuit Sport Bar, Grill & Resto. This restaurant, located near the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, was packed with foreign tourists chatting and watching the MotoGP qualification session together while enjoying snacks and refreshing drinks. It has become a routine during the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia from September 27-29, 2024.
Adhamsyah, the owner, mentioned that this routine intensifies as the race at Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit approaches.
“When the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia is near, many tourists start coming and gathering here. Those who plan to watch the race at the circuit use this place as their meeting point,” Adham said on Friday, September 27, 2024. He admitted that every time MotoGP approaches, his business revenue increases by up to 80%.
“The restaurant's income has significantly increased by around 80%. For us in the MSME sector, international events like this are essential. Pertamina is extraordinary for bringing the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia to Lombok Island,” he explained.
In adddition to Adham, Waroeng Sulawesi, owned by Randy Bugis, also saw a significant increase in revenue. According to him, the Pertamina Grand Prix Of Indonesia significantly impacted his business income while helping create job opportunities for local residents.
“The Pertamina Grand Prix Of Indonesia is highly beneficial for our business sustainability. We now employ 35 staff members, who are all local residents,” Randy said.
Additionally, as a loyal user of Bright Gas products, Randy highly appreciates Pertamina’s support in the Pertamina Grand Prix Of Indonesia event. “Thank you, Pertamina, for supporting the Pertamina Grand Prix Of Indonesia in Mandalika. Besides increasing revenue, it also broadens visitor relations, both locally and internationally,” he added.
The international events benefit restaurant owners and other businesses, such as souvenir vendors. Ria Anggraini, a sales assistant at Natasya Collection, a souvenir shop in the Kuta Beach area, also admitted that there were plenty of buyers when the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia took place.
“Usually, we earn 1-2 million rupiah daily, but three days before the race, our business can make 5-6 million rupiah daily, continuing until three days after the event. The impact of the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia is truly extraordinary,” said Ria.
She hopes that other businesses also see an increase during MotoGP events. “Hopefully, the annual Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia and other international events in Lombok will also increase,” she continued.
Tourism businesses and travel agencies have also felt the impact. Rere Tour & Travel reported hotel rooms and motorcycle rentals have sharply increased. For example, their motorcycle rentals, usually priced at IDR 80,000-100,000 daily, increased to IDR 100,000-200,000 daily due to higher demand during the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia.
“Normally, we rent out 10-15 motorcycles, but as the race approaches, around 50-70 motorcycles have been rented daily. It is a significant increase,” said Mustakim, the owner of Rere Tour & Travel.
Mustakim hopes that international sports tourism events in Lombok will continue to grow.
“If the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia is held annually, other agencies should also organize events like Pertamina does. This way, revenue from international events will continue to flow, and the Lombok economy will recover and grow,” Mustakim said.
