85 Independent Village Energy Programs by Pertamina Successfully Reduce 729 Thousand Tons of Carbon Emissions

Jakarta, January 25, 2024 - A total of 85 Independent Village Energy Programs (DEB) by Pertamina throughout Indonesia have succeeded in reducing 729,127 tons of CO2eq/year in carbon emissions. This figure is obtained from five types of renewable energy utilization, namely solar power plants (64 programs), methane and biogas (12 programs), micro-hydro (6 programs), biodiesel (2 programs), and hybrid energy from solar and wind (1 program).

Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, stated that the Independent Village Energy Program provides access to New Renewable Energy (NRE) as a solution to the community’s increasing energy needs.

"In its implementation, Pertamina collaborates with various elements of society because Pertamina believes that clean and accessible energy will pave the way for economic development and community empowerment towards sustainable independence," said Fadjar.

Fadjar added that the DEB Program follows the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) #4, #7, #8, and #13, as well as the Government's target to achieve Net Zero Emission (NZE) by 2060 or earlier.

According to Fadjar, the DEB Program has produced renewable energy totaling 324,039 Wp (solar power), 609,000 m3/year (methane gas), 16,500 Wp (Hybrid/Solar & Wind), 28,000 Watts (micro-hydro), and 6,500 L/year (biodiesel).

In addition to building village-based energy resilience, the DEB Program has economic impacts on 5,413 Beneficiary Families. In a year, DEB provides economic benefits worth IDR 2.5 billion, thus simultaneously promoting economic self-sufficiency in rural communities.

"Pertamina will continue to develop the Independent Village Energy Program so that more people can enjoy clean energy while promoting economic growth in rural communities," concluded Fadjar.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
