Jakarta, February 18, 2022 – PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) has prepared a roadmap to become a greener integrated marine logistics company.
PIS conducts several programs called “green shipping,” which focus on aspects of shipbuilding and management.
“As a company, PIS is committed to environmental improvement, which is in line with the business expansion, that supports the implementation of ESG in operations and business. One of them is presenting environmentally-friendly ship technology," said CEO of PT Pertamina International Shipping Erry Widiastono, Wednesday (16/2).
Erry explained that the environmentally friendly ship technology program aims to reduce the ship's exhaust gases. The ship owned by PIS uses low sulfur fuel and is equipped with tools that can help lower and block the ship's exhaust gases.
"This technology has been applied to two carrier ships belonging to PIS, Pertamina Pride and Pertamina Prime. The construction of PIS's new ships will also apply eco-friendly ship technology."
Besides using technology, PIS also applies energy efficiency by reducing ship berthing time to minimize emissions. The commitment to reduce exhaust emissions is carried out by calculating the Energy Efficiency Existing Index (EEXI). Currently, it has been studied to 57% of PIS vessels or 54 out of 95 PIS vessels.
PIS will also invest up to US$1.6 billion to bring in new vessels that will be used to enter greener businesses over the next 10 years. This is in anticipation of a more environmentally friendly shipping business.
With this budget, the company will at least add 69 units of ships by acquisition or assembling from scratch. With this addition, the company's fleet will be 164 units from the current total of 95 units.**
