Lombok, 28 September 2024 - As an SOE company, PT Pertamina (Persero) has consistently supported motorsports in Indonesia. Over the past three years, Pertamina has been the main sponsor of the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia.
President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, stated that for 67 years, Pertamina has not only played a key role in meeting Indonesia's energy needs but has also contributed to national sports development, including motorsports competitions.
"For the past three years, we have supported the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia. This reflects our commitment to bringing international motorcycle racing to Indonesia, which can open up business opportunities on a global scale," said Nicke while attending the 2024 Pertamina GP of Indonesia at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit on Saturday (28/9).
According to Nicke, Pertamina has provided support for motorsports in various racing events, both at the national and international levels, including the 2024 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia.
In addition to sponsoring MotoGP events, Pertamina also supports racing teams. From 2022 to 2023, they supported the SAG team in the Moto2 category. Since 2024, Pertamina has fully supported the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team in the MotoGP category. Nicke hopes the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team riders will deliver their best performances.
"In the last two races, the enthusiasm for attending the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia at Mandalika has been very high. It had a positive impact on the national economy," Nicke remarked.
Nicke revealed that the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia contributed IDR 4.5 trillion to the national economy in 2022 and IDR 4.3 trillion in 2023. This year, the economic impact is expected to reach IDR 4.5 trillion or even more.
She added the presence of the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia has also created jobs. Last year, the MotoGP of Indonesia event employed 4,600 workers.
"This year, we expect an even larger increase, which could boost the community welfare," Nicke said optimistically.
Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, added that Pertamina once again invited 60 of its fostered SMEs to the event. Last year, the turnover of Pertamina's fostered SMEs reached IDR 700 million, a 53% increase compared to 2022.
"This year, we hope the turnover of these SMEs will continue to rise even higher," Fadjar said.
Fadjar added that the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia benefits the national economy and is expected to bring ongoing advantages to the local communities, especially in Lombok and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement.
