Increase Fishermen's Independence, Pertamina Lubricants Inaugurates Two Workshops in Cilacap

Cilacap, November 30, 2021 - PT Pertamina Lubricants (PTPL), a subsidiary of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Sub Holding Commercial & Trading PT Pertamina (Persero), through the Production Unit Cilacap (PUC), runs Pertamina Sahabat Nelayan, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program again by inaugurating two workshops in South Cilacap District, Cilacap Regency, Central Java.

Two workshops with the names "Berkah Marine" and "Pandanarang Marine" owned by two fishermen associations, namely the Sentolokawat and Pandanarang Fishermen Associations, were inaugurated by the Representative of the Cilacap Regency Fisheries Service, Sukirman, Deputy Chairman I of Himpunan Nelayan Seluruh Indonesia (HNSI) Cilacap Regency, Pardjo HP, Representative of the Cilacap Job Training Center, Suharjito, Head of Cilacap Village, Jamin Sudiyono and witnessed by the Tambakreja Fishermen Association, PPNC Fishermen Association, and the Cilacap Village, South Cilacap District Bhabinkamtibnas.

Pertamina Sahabat Nelayan is a fisherman assistance program and pioneering of outboard engines/boat engines and ship engine repair shops for the fishing communities through providing ship engine skills, providing capital, and pioneering fishing workshops and business assistance.

Cilacap Production Unit Manager Prasetiyo Budi said that with the presence of these two new  workshops, South Cilacap District now has three fostered workshops in total. The success of the previous year's program, namely the "Mina Lumbung Jaya" workshop in Tambakreja Village, encouraged the company to add new workshops in Sentolokawat and Pandanarang.

“We observe that there are three keys to the success of the workshop business. The first is to make the best use of the network, the second is to be able to establish close and sustainable relationships with consumers according to their needs, and the third is able to manage reporting well. All of this has been carried out optimally," explained Prasetiyo.

Head of Fisheries service in Cilacap District, Sukirman welcomed the program. “So far, there are only a few Cilacap fishermen who have the skills to repair machines, and if there are damages, they have to travel quite a distance for repairs. The existence of a workshop in each of the fishermen's associations certainly simplifies and has an economic impact on fishermen in Cilacap," he said.

Deputy Chairperson I of the Cilacap Himpunan Nelayan Seluruh Indonesia (HNSI), Pardjo HP also stated that in the future, Cilacap fishermen will seek to synergize with other parties to improve the welfare of the fishermen.

"Welfare is not always in the form of material, but also in the form of ease in carrying out tasks and gaining new knowledge. Hopefully, through the Pertamina Sahabat Nelayan program together with Pertamina Lubricants, the aspirations of the fishermen community towards prosperity will be achieved.”

The Pertamina Sahabat Nelayan program has also been implemented in several other areas, namely Gresik, Banyuwangi and Banten.

PTPL has collaborated with the Work Training Center (BLK) and the local Fisheries Training and Extension Center to create a training formula that has a sustainable impact. It aims to continue building superior human resources in Indonesia and create economic independence in the communities where the company operates.

Moreover, this program is in line with the ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) commitment, Pertamina Go Sustainable, and the achievement of Sustainable and Development Goals (SDGs) number 1 namely Eradicating Poverty, number 8 namely Decent work and economic growth, and number 17 namely Partnership to achieve aims.**
