Increasing Operational Reliability, Pertamina Strengthens Digitalization of Upstream to Downstream Sectors

Jakarta, January 8, 2021 - PT Pertamina (Persero) continues the digital transformation program by partnering with Microsoft to realize innovation, efficiency, and security of company operational data from upstream to downstream.

The continuation of this cooperation was marked by the signing of the main points of the agreement or HoA (Head of Agreement) between President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, and President Director of Microsoft Indonesia, Haris Izmee, in Jakarta on Friday, January 8, 2021. The President of Microsoft Asia Pacific, Andrea Della Mattea, via Microsoft Teams, also witnessed the signing.

Previously, Pertamina and Microsoft had signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate, which took place on April 8, 2020.

President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, explained that Pertamina continues to make business steps and breakthroughs as a global energy company. Through this agreement, Pertamina and Microsoft, as a global company engaged in information technology, can build a commitment to accelerate digital transformation.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has shifted consumer behavior and all lines of business. This situation has accelerated the process of digitalization for all information and communication technologies. Digital transformation is also one of Pertamina's strategic agendas in all sectors by developing several core points," she said.

The first, Horizontal Digital Transformation. In this aspect, extensive connectivity and integration processes are needed within the company, namely in the Pertamina Value Chain, from upstream to downstream.

Then, secondly, the Real-time Analytics Insight Solution aims to support fast decision making.

"For example, the Predictive Maintenance solution in the Upstream and Refineries can calculate abnormalities in the initial phase, so that maintenance can be carried out immediately, to increase reliability and production," she said.

"There is also a Real-time Monitoring Ship Movement. Technology is presented to maximize delivery time. It has been done at the completed digitalization of petrol stations where the potential application of artificial intelligence can help better understand customers and innovate to improve our services. It can also be used to monitor all levels and targets of subsidized fuel distribution," she said.

The third, continued Nicke, is Digital Integration at all levels of work, aiming to improve skills and work culture and shape digital culture. With Digital Integration, Pertamina can implement a data center and modernize applications that can summarize big data to ensure data needs in every business process.

"In a fast-paced era like now, this is the key to a company's sustainable growth. And I believe that this collaboration can have a positive impact, not only for the two related companies but also for Indonesia to achieve national energy security," she added.

"HoA provides Microsoft's strategic foundation to help realize Pertamina's vision as a world-class energy company, while at the same time making a significant impact in building Indonesia's economic resilience. We are committed to this collaboration and ensure the full support of our organization," said Haris Izmee.

Pertamina Business Support Director, M. Haryo Yunianto, said that Pertamina Group had implemented digital technology, including Predictive Maintenance, through this collaboration. This application is presented to predict refinery maintenance to maintain refinery reliability and ensure product stock for the community. To strengthen operations, a P-Office has also been implemented, which automates the correspondence administration process at Pertamina using the concept of mobility.

Others also used the Join Operational Dashboard and Corporate Dashboard. Meanwhile, Modern Workplace with Office 365 is implemented to improve performance by using collaboration tools such as Mteams (Vicon) and Microsoft Office's use in the cloud to improve performance collaboratively.

To monitor all downstream to upstream operational activities, Pertamina Group uses the Join Operational Dashboard. Meanwhile, specifically for the upstream sector, it uses the Upstream Operational Dashboard (UPAD) application. The use of Infrastructure & Azure Dev Ops at the Azure Azure Data Center helps accelerate innovation and monitor the performance of all applications used at Pertamina. The next application, Pertamina, will use machine learning in Crude Price Analytic, from the Microsoft Azure Cloud & Analytic platform.
