It's Official! The MotoGP Event in Mandalika is Named the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia

Jakarta, February 10, 2022 – Pertamina once again contributed to the nation by giving full support to the Mandalika MotoGP event, now officially known as the “Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia.” This is in line with President Joko Widodo's direction in developing 5 Super Priority Tourism Destinations (DPSP), including Mandalika West Nusa Tenggara, and efforts to encourage national economic growth through the International MotorSport event in Indonesia. This complements the previous support that Pertamina has provided for the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit.

In realizing this step, Pertamina signed a cooperation agreement with Dorna Sports. The signing was carried out directly by the President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, and the Managing Director of Dorna Sports, S.L, Carlos Ezpeleta (online), and witnessed by the Minister of SOEs, Erick Thohir, in Jakarta, Wednesday, February 9, 2022.

The Minister of SOEs, Erick Thohir, said that from the beginning, President Joko Widodo has encouraged international events in Indonesia, such as the Asian Games and World Superbike that had been successfully held. The Minister of SOEs is grateful for the seriousness of the Central Government, Regional Government, and ITDC.

"Of course, the highest appreciation goes to Pertamina, that we are now pushing as a global company. We target Pertamina to have a very large valuation of USD 100 billion," said Erick.

On the same occasion, Nicke Widyawati expressed Pertamina's full support in presenting the "Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit" and the "Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia" racing event.

"Hopefully, this synergy of SOEs will provide a multiplier effect and become part of the national economic recovery, as well as an opportunity to penetrate the global market for Pertamina, SOEs, and MSMEs products in Mandalika and other areas," said Nicke.

According to Nicke, the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia event has been missed greatly since it was last held in Indonesia 25 years ago. It is hoped that this event will become a moment of pride for the Indonesian and encourage the spirit to rise after the pandemic.

"By holding the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia, we can strengthen Indonesia's nation branding as a resilient country amid the global pandemic crisis," she added.

Carlos Ezpeleta said he was very happy with the inclusion of Pertamina as the main supporter of the Grand Prix of Indonesia. This collaboration further strengthens the presence of Pertamina and Indonesia in this sport, apart from being the main supporter of the Mandalika Circuit and previously also supporting the SAG Pertamina Mandalika team that competed in the Moto2™ World Championship.

Mansoer, President Director of PT Pengembangan Pariwisata Indonesia (Persero)/Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) as the SOE managing the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (KEK) and the Mandalika Circuit which holds a license to organize MotoGP in Indonesia, conveyed his readiness to become the host of the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia.
