More Reliable, Pertamina Produces 113.5 Thousand Barrel of SF-05

Balikpapan, February 18, 2022 – Mud products supporting Pertamina's drilling production through PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) Balikpapan Unit are increasingly reliable. Throughout 2021, the Balikpapan KPI Unit has produced 113.5 thousand barrels of Smooth Fluid 05 (SF-05). This product is used by the Pertamina Group, which are Pertamina EP, Pertamina Hulu Sanga-Sanga, Pertamina Hulu Mahakam and Pertamina Hulu East Kalimantan.

"SF-05 is one of the non-fuel products produced by RU Balikpapan. This product is also only produced at RU Balikpapan. In 2021, SF-05 production has been successfully achieved above the production target in 2021," said Area Manager Communication, Relations & CSR of KPI Balikpapan Unit Ely Chandra Peranginangin (Monday, 14/02).

This achievement, according to Chandra, is also proof that the superior product of the Balikpapan KPI Unit is increasingly trusted as one of the main supporting materials for upstream oil and gas activities, especially in drilling activities.

As information, SF-05 is a fluid used in drilling activities from the oil fraction. SF-05 is used as a component of oil-base mud (drilling mud). This fluid has special characteristics, including non-corrosive and compatible with drilling equipment, has good stability and is not easily oxidized under various operating conditions, has good safety on work equipment, has good safety in the mud area, and has good stability for long term storage.

"SF-05 has been produced at RU Balikpapan since 2007. Another advantage is that it is environmentally friendly because it has low aromatic content, is safe to use, preserves other additives usage, compatible with various drilling conditions, competitive prices, and guaranteed good supply," Chandra explained.

In addition to being proven reliable in supporting the drilling process, the utilization of SF-05 as a local product can increase domestic products usage, especially in the oil and gas industry.

"The existence of this product also shows the close synergy of the Pertamina Group. In Kalimantan, RU Balikpapan also supports the Pertamina Group, which is engaged in the upstream oil and gas sector. Indeed, geographical proximity is also one of Pertamina's strengths," he concluded.
