Musi Banyuasin, March 15, 2022 – Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) Jambi Merang is seeking new oil and gas reserves by drilling the SRT-1X exploration well located in Mendis Jaya Village, Bayung Lencir District, Musi Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatera. This well began to be drilled on March 7, 2022, using the PDSI #42.3/N-1500E rig with 62 days estimated time. The drilling of the SRT-1X well is the fulfillment of the Jambi Merang PHE Definite Work Commitment included in the Pertamina Upstream Subholding Sumatera Region Zone 1.
The General Manager of Zone 1, Ani Surakhman, explained that the SRT-1X well is the third exploration well to be drilled by Zone 1 in 2022. “Previously, the CMA-001 exploration well was drilled in the Pangkalan Susu Field and the SGET-001 well in the Jambi Field. Moreover, we have also drilled five development wells. Namely the SGC-031, SGC-032, KTT-045, and SKB-002 wells in the Jambi Field, and the P-460 well in the Rantau Field," explained Ani.
Exploration wells are different from development wells. Exploration wells aim to find new oil and gas reserves, while development wells are drilled in structures with proven oil and gas reserves to increase production.
"We are committed to increasing oil and gas production. It includes through drilling development wells, improving operating performance, optimizing existing production fields, continuing exploration work programs, transforming resources to production, and utilizing technology to implement enhanced oil recovery (EOR)," stated Ani.
Ani Surakhman admits that the massive and aggressive work program is one of the strategies to increase Zone 1 oil and gas production. This implementation is in line with the spirit of SUMATERA (SUstainable, MAssive, To grow, Efficient, Resilient, Aggressive) promoted by Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) – Sumatera Region.
The Head of SKK Migas Representative for Southern Sumatera (Sumbagsel), Anggono Mahendawan, said that SKK Migas and KKKS would continue to increase oil and gas production especially in the South Sumatera region. "I appreciate the Jambi Merang PHE KKKS for the drilling of the SRT-1X exploration well. I hope it succeeds in finding new oil and gas reserves as we all hope. Therefore, that it can contribute to achieving the target of oil production of 1 million barrels per day and natural gas of 12 billion standard cubic feet per day by 2030," said Anggono.
Zone 1 Regional Sumatera of Pertamina's Upstream Subholding seeks to meet the 2022 oil and gas production target set by the government. Namely 22,817 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 185 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD). This target will be achieved with the well work plan, which are 27 development wells, 3 exploration wells, 7 workover wells, and conducting well services-well intervention of 934 wells.**
