Jakarta, December 14, 2021 – In addition to ensuring supply reliability, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Sub Holding Commercial & Trading of PT Pertamina (Persero), also prioritize the safety aspect in running its business. After developing the Smart Mode of Transport or SmartMT for its tank car fleet, the LPG skid tank will also be equipped with a safety device, namely the Indonesian Safety Recorder (ISR).
ISR is a technology to support decarbonization and logistics efficiency, including fuel consumption efficiency in transport trucks as one of the Global Environment Center (GEC) programs of the Japanese Ministry of Environment. GEC has a project with the theme of Reducing CO2 Emissions or Decarbonization in developing countries. For Indonesia, GEC appointed Datatec (Kanematsu Group), a strategic partner in ISR development for Pertamina Patra Niaga's LPG skid tank fleet.
Acting Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Irto Ginting, said that the pilot project with Datatec is a positive synergy to ensure the safety of the tanker fleet and crew, given the high-risk nature of Pertamina Patra Niaga's business.
"With an ISR or GPS tracker that monitors several aspects, it is hoped that the LPG skid tank operation will be more optimal, efficient, and timely in energy distribution. Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to innovate in terms of safety since fleet safety is one of our top concerns, and it is directly tied to the community's energy supply," said Irto.
In the pilot project lasting for the next five years, as many as 130 skid LPG tanks in the Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, and East Java areas will be equipped with ISR equipment.
ISR will track the vehicle's location and condition, verify the history of vulnerable locations, and assess driving safety. In Japan, ISR has lowered accident rates by up to 50%, increased fuel consumption efficiency by up to 10%, and cut routine maintenance expenses by 10%.
"We will monitor these benefits together for five years. The results obtained from the implementation of the ISR will be used as innovations to improve the operational quality and safety of Pertamina Patra Niaga's LPG skid tank fleet. We are also grateful. Because, after five years of this pilot project, we still can use ISR in our LPG skid tank fleet," he continued.
This strategic cooperation was inaugurated, through cooperation signing on Friday (10/12) at the Tanjung Priok LPG Depot, North Jakarta. The signing was carried out by Moch Toriq as VP Fleet Management of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Ahmad Jaelani as VP IT of Pertamina Patra Niaga, and Masaya Kitano as President Director of PT Kanematsu Trading Indonesia.
Meanwhile, a representative from Datatec, Handy Madinata, witnessed the signing of the strategic cooperation program for the Global Environment Center (GEC) on the LPG skid tank fleet with Pertamina Patra Niaga. According to him, this collaboration will be very beneficial for both parties.
"Datatec has been utilized in Japan to help reduce CO2 emissions and accident rates since 1983, such as in the GEC program. We know that LPG skid tanks are one essential form of energy transportation. Thus, their efficiency and safety are critical. This co-innovation is expected to follow the Smart MT program and create a society that is more concerned with decarbonization and better fleet safety management," said Handy.**
