Pertamina Plaju Refinery Supplies Logistics Aid to Forest Firefighters in South Sumatera
Palembang, October 8, 2023 - As an expression of empathy and corporate responsibility, Kilang Pertamina Plaju (PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional) continues to assist in easing the duties of Forest and Land Fire (Karhutla) firefighters in South Sumatera.
Following the previous Fireman and Medical team deployment to assist Manggala Agni in firefighting in OKI Regency on Friday, October 6, 2023, Pertamina Plaju Refinery also provided logistical support, including 100 sets of safety equipment such as masks, safety goggles, and fire-resistant boots.
The logistics aid also includes five firefighting pumps, as well as food packages, vitamins, mineral water, and sterilized milk.
Siti Rachmi Indahsari, Area Manager for Communication, Relations & CSR of Kilang Pertamina Plaju, explained that the company's commitment to supporting Karhutla firefighting is based on the Environmental and Social Responsibility Policy (TJSL).
"We want to join hands in the effort to help the government save the environment and fully support every sustainability agenda in preserving the Earth," Rachmi stated, accompanied by Emergency Insurance Section Head Yudi Prasetiyo, after delivering the logistics supply at the Climate Change and Forest Fire Control Office (PPIKHL) Sumatera on Friday, October 6, 2023.
She emphasized that Kilang Pertamina Plaju’s commitment is also a part of the disaster response movement.
Ferdian Krisnanto, Head of PPIKHL for the Sumatera Region of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, welcomed the logistics aid from Pertamina Plaju Refinery. He mentioned that the large number of personnel deployed for Karhutla control in several districts of South Sumatera, such as Musi Banyuasin, Banyuasin, Lahat, and OKI, requires support from other parties, including companies, for the logistics.
"We have deployed 300 personnel for firefighting in the Muba, Banyuasin, Lahat, and OKI regions," Ferdian said.
Moreover, he added that the worsening haze due to Karhutla poses an increasing concern for the teams’ safety that have been on alert at the location for the past 25 days.
"The pump aid can accelerate firefighting efforts in peatland fire areas, while logistics aid is also needed to support the teams during firefighting," he said.
He also expressed gratitude for Kilang Pertamina Plaju’s concern and empathy in collaborating to address Karhutla.
Previously, Kilang Pertamina Plaju had also supported firefighting efforts by deploying fireman personnel at 17 points, conducting health check-ups, and providing vitamins, as well as assisting the community with firefighting equipment such as the Wak Jago Firefighting Motorcycle equipped with hoses and Personal Protective Equipment.
