Pertamina and Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas Strengthen National Energy Security Collaboration

Jakarta, September 18, 2024 – PT Pertamina (Persero) is collaborating with the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (Ministry of PPN/Bappenas) by signing a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) on the National and Regional Energy Transition Planning Collaboration to Ensure Energy Security. This PKS follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed in June 2024 as part of efforts to address global challenges such as climate change and meeting energy needs.

The signing took place at Grha Pertamina, Jakarta, on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, by the Director of Strategy, Portfolio, and Business Development of Pertamina, A. Salyadi Saputra, and the Deputy for Maritime Affairs and Natural Resources of the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas, Vivi Yulaswati, witnessed by the President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, and the Director of Energy, Mineral Resources, and Mining of Bappenas, Nizhar Marizi.

The Deputy for Maritime Affairs and Natural Resources of the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas, Vivi Yulaswati, emphasized that a green economy implementation is aimed at driving economic growth and achieving Net Zero Emission (NZE). According to Bappenas projections, green economy policies with low-carbon and climate-resilient development can lead Indonesia to reach NZE by 2060 or even sooner.

Vivi highlighted that strategic partnerships are crucial, from planning to implementing energy sector development policies. She expressed hope that this collaboration could act as a catalyst for Indonesia's energy security. "Thank you for the exceptional cooperation with Pertamina as we work to realize the national development agenda, particularly in maintaining national energy security," said Vivi.

The Director of Strategy, Portfolio, and Business Development of Pertamina, A. Salyadi Saputra, stated that Pertamina’s synergy with the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas could stimulate the energy industry’s development, which is a catalyst for Indonesia's economic growth.

"This is what drives Pertamina, as a state-owned enterprise, to play its role in ensuring national energy security. Pertamina must ensure that our energy is sufficiently available. Additionally, the public must have adequate access (accessibility) and affordability to obtain that energy. Furthermore, we must ensure sustainability in its implementation," explained Salyadi.

Henricus Herwin, SVP of Strategy & Investment of Pertamina, added that the energy transition currently implemented by Pertamina could support national economic growth while enhancing Indonesia’s ability to tackle the energy trilemma. To achieve this, Pertamina adopts a dual growth strategy: maintaining and enhancing existing businesses to ensure national energy security while developing low-carbon businesses.

Similarly, the Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, recognized that Pertamina’s collaboration with the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas is expected to have a lasting positive impact on society and Indonesia. This effort supports the Indonesian government’s goal of achieving NZE by 2060, with the partnership anticipated to accelerate the NZE target’s achievement. "Pertamina is actively taking various initiatives to accelerate the NZE target, including through synergies with various institutions, including government, private, and academic. We hope that Pertamina's role will contribute to national energy security while also positively impacting climate change," said Fadjar.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
