Plants 300 Meranti Tree Seeds, Pertamina Supports the Establishment of Green Open Space
Balikpapan, December 11, 2021 – One of the efforts to support the vision of Balikpapan City as a leading city that is comfortable to live in, modern, and prosperous is through environmental-related programs. This is supported by Pertamina through PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) Balikpapan Unit by planting 300 trees on Yos Sudarso Street, near the intersection of Jalan Ahmad Yani, Karang Anyar, (Friday, 03/12).
The tree planting activity was preceded by a bicycle activity involving KPI Balikpapan Unit workers and stakeholders. Representatives from the Balikpapan City Government, the Environment Department, Balikpapan District Attorney, Balikpapan Police, Military District Command (Kodim) 0905/Balikpapan, Balikpapan Marine Base (Lanal), Balikpapan Air Base (Lanud) Dhomber, Balikpapan City and West Balikpapan Districts Head, Karang Jati and Prapatan Villages Head, and Pertamina Group in Balikpapan City were also present. The rain that had fallen before the activity started did not recede the participants’ enthusiasm to take part in the series of activities. The activity was attended by about 200 participants.
“This activity is a form of our concern with stakeholders to create green open spaces in Balikpapan. This is our initial stage in realizing a Green Refinery, moreover, we will build it in the refinery," said Acting General Manager of KPI Balikpapan Unit, Wahyu Sulistyo Wibowo after planting trees.
Wahyu explained that in this activity 300 seeds of meranti trees were planted. According to him, the meranti tree was chosen because it can grow into a large tree which create green open space in Balikpapan. The fertilizer used for planting this tree utilizes products from Pertamina's fostered partners, namely TPST Margasari.
"Pertamina continues to commit in creating an atmosphere and products that are environmentally friendly, as well as creating green open spaces in the refinery area. It is hoped that these planted trees can grow and shade the Balikpapan area, in line with the city's vision of Balikpapan as a Leading City that is Comfortable to Live in, Modern, and Prosperous in the Madinatul Iman Frame," said Wahyu.
The Balikpapan City Government welcomes the activities carried out by the Balikpapan KPI Unit. “The Balikpapan government is proud to be able to take part in this event. Pertamina itself is not only a company but also actively participates in social activities in Balikpapan," said Secretary of the Balikpapan City Sub-district, Slamet Junaidi.
The same thing was conveyed by the Dandim 0905 Balikpapan, Colonel Inf Faisal Rizal. "In this event, we stay in touch with each other. Then, in this event there is a tree planting activity which is expected to make Balikpapan even greener," said Colonel Inf Faisal Rizal.
A joint commitment was also signed for reforestation in Balikpapan in this activity. The series of events that began with cycling activities ended with cycling activities to the starting point. Arriving at the meeting point, participants were presented with various entertainment, door prizes, and products from Pertamina's fostered partners, namely TPST Masa Sejati, kopi gunung dubs, latitaka borneo, madu luntau Balikpapan, kampung timur, dan bontings.**
