Jakarta, August 22, 2024 – To accelerate the energy transition, Pertamina is continuously establishing partnerships with global strategic partners to develop greener and more environmentally friendly energy. Pertamina has agreed to collaborate with Hyundai Motor Asia Pacific HQ to develop the hydrogen ecosystem in Indonesia.
The Director of Strategy, Portfolio, and Business Development of Pertamina, Salyadi Dariah Saputra, stated that the partnership to develop the hydrogen ecosystem is Pertamina's commitment to accelerating the energy transition while supporting the government's target of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060.
According to Salyadi, Pertamina has mapped 17 hydrogen supply sources across Sumatra to Papua. Pertamina is also developing a green hydrogen pilot project in the Ulubelu geothermal area with a target production of 100 kg/day.
In the downstream, Pertamina is also constructing a pilot project for a Hydrogen Fueling Station (SPBH) in Daan Mogot, West Jakarta, which will be the first integrated energy refueling station in Indonesia. The SPBH will offer three fuels at one station: gasoline, gas, and hydrogen.
"The hydrogen development will become one of our future clean energy business portfolios and has the potential to position Indonesia as a key player in the region," Salyadi emphasized.
Salyadi added that green hydrogen development will become a global trend and could be one of Pertamina's future businesses. Hydrogen development requires substantial investment as well as regulatory support from the government to build a robust hydrogen ecosystem in the transportation sector.
"Pertamina welcomes the collaboration with Hyundai Motor Company, and this partnership is expected to drive decarbonization efforts and clean energy utilization in the transportation sector," he added.
The President of Hyundai Motor Asia Pacific Headquarters, Sunny Kim, representing Hyundai Motor Company, reinforced the shared vision between the two companies. "For more than two decades, Hyundai Motor Company has been dedicated to developing hydrogen technology. Our partnership with Pertamina aims to advance hydrogen implementation in the transportation sector in Indonesia. We look forward to achieving a sustainable future and contributing to the energy transition in the region together."
The agreement between Pertamina and Hyundai Motor Company was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the Director of Strategy, Portfolio, and Business Development of Pertamina, Salyadi Dariah Saputra, and a representative from Hyundai Motor Company on May 30, 2024.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
