Jakarta, April 18, 2023 - PT Trans-Pacific Petrochemical Indotama (TPPI) refinery operating in the Tuban area, East Java, just completed an equipment rejuvenation process (pitstop) and succeeded in increasing the refinery platformer performance. Thus its current capacity is 50 KPBD (thousand barrels per day) from the previous 37 KPBD. The capacity increase exceeds the target of 45 KPBD in the company’s Work Plan. Besides that, TPPI Refinery also succeeded in increasing the ability to process feedstock to a more sour feedstock, which is processing naphtha with a maximum of 320 ppm, an increase from the previous maximum pitstop of 100 ppm.
Corporate Secretary of PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) Hermansyah Y Nasroen said that the TPPI Refinery is a petrochemical refinery that can operate in dual modes, namely Gasoline and Petrochemical. “The production profile depends on the downstream optimization results at the Pertamina Group. For every single mode, it has a maximum production capacity of 1,680 barrels per month for Gasoline and 600 KTPA (thousand tons per year) for Petrochemicals. With the ability to process a more sour feedstock, it will provide flexibility in using the raw materials that are more economical and obtain more competitive Cost of Production,” Hermansyah explained.
The main products produced at the TPPI Refinery are aromatic products, including Paraxylene, Benzene, Orthoxylene, Heavy Aromatic, and Toluene. TPPI Refinery also produces other products, such as Light Naphtha, and fuel, such as Pertalite.
The pitstop or maintenance period by TPPI is done by replacing and rejuvenating equipment, including Center Pipes, Scallops Catmax, Packinox, and Internal Cleaning Columns. "This pitstop is carried out as a preparation for a larger activity, namely the Platformer Unit revamping and upgrading planned to be executed in August 2023," Hermansyah continued.
TPPI refinery is currently owned by several shareholders, namely Tuban Petrochemical Industries, Pertamina, and several others shareholders. PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional, as Pertamina's sub-holding for the refining and petrochemical business, was given a virtual assignment to monitor TPPI's performance.
Hermansyah explained in 2021, TPPI Refinery began the development process. "In 2021, a revamping project for five tanks has been carried out. In March 2023, a pitstop through equipment repair and rejuvenation. In August 2023, revamping the Upgrade Platformer, and in 2026 it is hoped that the Olefin project completion could make TPPI contribute more optimally in meeting fuel needs, especially during Ramadan and before Eid as it is today. TPPI refinery also produces petrochemicals for domestic needs, which still have a very large market," Hermansyah concluded.
PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional is a subsidiary of PT Pertamina (Persero), which runs the oil and petrochemical processing main business following ESG (Environment, Social & Governance) principles. PT KPI has been registered with the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and is committed to the UNGC’s Ten Principles in its operational strategy to implement ESG aspects. PT KPI will run its business professionally to realize its vision to be a world-class Oil Refinery and Petrochemical Company that is environmentally sound, socially responsible, and has good corporate governance.**
