Balikpapan, August 25, 2021 – Pertamina continues its commitment to complete national strategic projects mandated by the government. Through its Refining & Petrochemical sub-holding subsidiary, PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan (PT KPB), RDMP Balikpapan is currently making progress on constructing essential units as part of the refinery.
One of the units currently under construction is the Alkylation Unit of the Balikpapan RDMP project. Alkylation Reactor (C-065-03) is one of the essential equipment in the Alkylation Unit. It has the primary function to produce alkylate products which are high-octane blending components. This alkylate will later become one of the inputs for the Gasoline Blending process to produce high-quality Gasoline products.
PT KPB has successfully lifted Alkylation Reactor Equipment on Saturday (21/8) afternoon. The equipment produced by PT Sewon Cellontech Co Ltd, Korea is about 49.65 meters tall, has an outer diameter of about 10 meters, and a weight of about 418.07 tons. With the size and weight that is quite large, cranes with a capacity of 1600 tons are used for the lifting.
The installation of this equipment contributes to the project progress by 0.2%. As a result, as of August 12, 2021, the overall progress of the Balikpapan RDMP project has reached 38.80%.
PT KPB Development Director, Djoko Koen Soewito, reaffirmed the company’s commitment, “In managing the Balikpapan and Lawe-Lawe Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) projects, which are National Strategic Projects (PSN), PT KPB is committed to improving product quality to meet EURO V standards by making it more environmentally friendly.”
During the pandemic, the Balikpapan RDMP project was carried out in strict COVID-19 prevention protocol. Safety aspects are always a primary concern, where workers are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment following the provisions and apply other safety-related rules. The masterpiece of the Pertamina Balikpapan Refinery will be Indonesia’s pride in realizing Indonesia’s Energy Resilience, Independence, and Sovereignty.
