Boosting “Go Digital” Program, Pertamina Apply Enhanced Daily Tanker Position (EDTP)

Jakarta, August 25, 2021 - Pertamina always prioritizes innovation to face challenges and dynamics in running its business. The pandemic contributes to the fall of oil and gas demand, the continued rising of oil prices and impacts the business competition in the regional market. Those require a business strategy that can make the company survive and win the competition internationally, including support company growth and accelerate national economic recovery.

Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), as the Shipping Subholding, acts to distribute energy throughout the country to strengthen and boost this strategy. Currently, PIS operates vessels and transporting fuels, Crude Oil, LPG, and Petrochemicals with a distribution capability of 119 million kiloliters domestically and 26 million kiloliters abroad. Therefore, PIS needs to take effective and efficient steps in the operational sector/transportation cost by creating digital innovations.

Enhanced Daily Tanker Position (EDTP) 2.0

The digital innovation developed by PIS is the tanker monitoring automation program or Enhanced Daily Tanker Position (“EDTP”) 2.0. The EDTP program has been developed to a further stage, namely an automated and digitalized version. With the EDTP program, monitoring was performed manually using simple web-based features through communication between ship programmers and crew members. Therefore, the manual monitoring, which was unable to detect fraud, is now detecting fraud properly. Pertamina uses this EDTP application to monitor the entire fleet domestically and abroad, accessed from the Pertamina Integrated Command Center (PICC).

“PIS must continue to innovate and must not be assured with the EDTP 1.0 program (previous version). It continues to be developed considering the pandemic condition, which requires PIS to optimize revenue from every aspect of operational activities. The latest version of the EDTP 2.0 program is equipped with an algorithm to detect ship speed, shipment activity, potential ship delays causing critical depots, weather and waves connected to Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), and can be accessed in real-time through a web-based system or phone application,” said Arief Kurnia Risdianto, PIS Director of Operations.

Innovations made through the EDTP 2.0 program gives tangible results, namely optimizing the number of vessels used followed by Integrated Port Time which is more efficient compared to other international shipping companies (17% lower than other companies), optimizing the use of the number of vessels can reduce operational costs without having to increase company service costs (although oil prices continue to increase) so that it does not burden the Indonesian people, and results in saving transportation costs of USD84 million.

“Besides the operationally quantifiable tangible results, the EDTP 2.0 GO DIGITAL Program developed by PIS also supports the sustainability program (GO GREEN) with the application of decarbonization. It is related to a decrease in bunker consumption which has an impact on reducing fuel emissions. Moreover, the company reduces environmental impacts and implements ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance). Therefore, it is also a pride for us to receive an award at the IDX Channel Indonesia Innovation Award 2021,” said Erry Widiastono, PIS Chief Executive Officer.**
