Commemorating World Environment Day, Pertamina Group Holds Environmental Actions across Operational Areas

Jakarta, June 14, 2023 - PT Pertamina (Persero) continues to strengthen its commitment to protect and preserve the environment. Environmental preservation is one of Pertamina's sustainability focuses in the environment aspect, aiming to fulfill the company's commitment to becoming a sustainable enterprise.

Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero), conveyed that during the World Environment Day 2023 last week, Pertamina urged all business lines to develop Social and Environmental Responsibility Programs (TJSL/CSR), involving various activities ranging from Social Forestry Assistance, Mangrove Tree Planting, Coastal Clean Up, to Fun Bike.

In Penajam Paser Utara Regency (PPU), East Kalimantan, Pertamina's upstream subsidiary conducted 5,000 mangroves planting in the Corong Beach Area, Tanjung Tengah Village. This activity is part of Pertamina's TJSP Hutan program, which has contributed to planting over 4.1 million plant seedlings, including mangroves and land trees, as well as reducing carbon emissions by more than 120 thousand tons of CO2eq per year.

According to Fadjar, the Kalimantan region is one of Pertamina's upstream operational areas located in the sea. Therefore, Pertamina is responsible for preserving its beaches and marine habitats. "Pertamina is not only focused on increasing oil and gas production offshore Kalimantan but also strives to preserve the surrounding environment," he said.

Fadjar further explained that the concern for the marine and coastal environment was also demonstrated by other Pertamina subsidiaries through Coastal Clean Up activities in 22 locations throughout Indonesia. The beach cleaning activities involved thousands of people from Pertamina's operational units in the Refining & Petrochemical Subholding, Commercial & Trading Subholding, Upstream Subholding, and Gas Subholding.

"To support the coastal clean-up activities in Balikpapan as the center of this event, Pertamina utilized Pantai Melawai Banua Patra as the main venue for the simultaneous beach cleaning at 137 points across Indonesia, involving 925 community members and students from Balikpapan," explained Fadjar.

The Coastal Clean Up activities follow the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation, specifically SDG 13 (climate action), SDG 14 (life below water), and SDG 15 (life on land).

Moreover, Pertamina also supported the Fun Bike event covering a distance of 99.6 kilometers from Balikpapan to Titik Nol Nusantara, which was participated by 425 cyclists. "The activities on World Environment Day, centered in Kalimantan, are part of the CSR program in the environmental field with a sustainable environment theme while supporting the government's program in the new capital city development," concluded Fadjar.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
