Committed to Advance Communities, Pertamina Group Receives 10 ProKlim 2023 Awards from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry

Jakarta, October 25, 2023 - Pertamina's commitment to partner with local communities to advance villages in various regions of Indonesia has received appreciation from the the Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya. Ten of Pertamina’s business entities were named the Program Kampung Iklim (ProKlim) 2023’s supporters in the institutions category, held in Jakarta on Tuesday, October 24.

During the event, Subholding Commercial & Trading, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, received six awards for DPPU Sultan Thaha (Jambi), DPPU Adi Sumarmo (Solo), DPPU Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II (Palembang), Fuel Terminal Maos (Cilacap), Integrated Terminal Panjang (Lampung), and Integrated Terminal Palembang.

Additionally, PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI), the Subholding Refining and Petrochemical, received two awards for RU V Balikpapan and RU III Plaju. Awards were also granted to PT Pertamina EP Donggi Matindok Field and PT Perta Samtan Gas.

In her remarks, the Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya, appreciated those who have worked to implement ProKlim in their respective areas. "We present these awards to acknowledge the ProKlim participants' dedication and show appreciation for all the actors in the field and business entities that consistently provide excellent guidance, actively participate, and support the ProKlim implementation," said Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya.

VP of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, affirmed Pertamina’s support the Ministry of Environment and Forestry’s efort in achieving the ProKlim village target through fostered villages that initiate supportive programs and empower rural communities, villages, and hamlets to become agents of change in Indonesia's ProKlim villages.

"Pertamina's role is not limited to providing energy but also includes a commitment to environmental conservation to create a better future. Together, we invite communities to engage in sustainable climate change management, including supporting the government's target to achieve Net Zero Emission (NZE) by 2060."

Fadjar explained that Pertamina entities could received awards because they consistently involve the community to be active in ProKlim action and mitigation for a better environment. For example, the Integrated Terminal Palembang has worked with the community in Pulau Semambu Village, Indralaya Utara District, Ogan Ilir Regency, to empower the community through the Energy Independent Village (DEB) Program, focusing on environmentally friendly agriculture through the use of renewable solar energy.

Solar panel utilization, business management, and digital marketing to the community are given in a structured manner. Equipped with a 6.54-kilowatt peak (kWp) solar panel and a storage system for 10 kWh lithium battery energy, this program can generate 8,442 kWh of energy per year.

"This could potentially save approximately IDR 13 million per year in electricity costs. In addition to the economic benefits, solar energy implementation can support more sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture by reducing carbon emissions by 8,502 kg CO2eq per year," Fadjar explained.

The positive impact of this program has been significant. More than 140 farmers have directly benefited from integrated farming practices supported by the DEB program. The Home Industry Group establishment, consisting of ten members, also had a positive impact, with a 30% increase in farmers' income with monthly turnover reaching IDR 1,500,000 per farmer and IDR 1,000,000 per group.

ProKlim is part of Indonesia's commitment and contribution to global climate change control efforts as a non-party stakeholder, in line with the outcomes of the 26th UNFCCC Conference of The Parties (COP) in the Glasgow Climate Pact. This program aligns with ESG principles and the 13th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), which focuses on taking rapid action to combat climate change and its effects.
