Developing Community Empowerment Programs, Pertamina Won 96 Awards at the ISRA Awards 2024
June 30, 2024 - Pertamina Group secured 96 awards at the Indonesia Social Responsibility Award (ISRA) 2024 on Thursday (27/6) in Solo, Central Java. Pertamina Group received 25 Platinum awards, 27 Gold awards, 34 Silver awards, and 10 Bronze awards.
ISRA 2024, with the theme "Confronting Climate Change: Survive to Revive," focuses on mitigating and addressing sustainable climate change. It aligns with the goals and priorities of Pertamina's Social & Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program, which, as an energy company, Pertamina is concerned with the environment and climate change mitigation.
Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry, Alue Dohong, Ph.D., who was present, stated, “The challenge of facing climate change must be mitigated together, one way being through the TJSL programs of businesses by implementing community-involved programs,” he said.
Vice President of Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero), Fadjar Djoko Santoso, revealed that Pertamina's flagship TJSL program is based on three pillars: Economy, Environment, and Social.
“These three TJSL program pillars aim to engage residents, protect the environment, and empower the community's economy, enabling them to manage their resources to improve their quality of life and well-being,” said Fadjar.
Fadjar also mentioned that Pertamina is developing climate change initiatives by undertaking decarbonization and energy transition across all company lines.
“In 2023, Pertamina achieved 124% of its scope 1 & 2 emission reduction target, successfully decarbonizing 1.13 million tons of CO2e from a target of 910 thousand tons of CO2e,” he added.
In line with these mitigation actions, one of the programs that received a Platinum award is the Desa Energi Berdikari (DEB/Independent Energy Village) Program. This program provides clean energy access to support the businesses of local MSMEs, adding value to rural communities by improving their welfare and economy.
VP of CSR & SMEPP Management of PT Pertamina (Persero), Fajriyah Usman, stated that the DEB program is currently running 85 projects, positively impacting 5,413 households, including 30 disabled beneficiaries, and contributing to a carbon reduction of 729,127 tons of CO2e per year.
“This DEB program has even created a multiplier effect by increasing the community's economy by IDR 2.8 billion per year,” said Fajriyah.
One of Pertamina Group's empowerment programs that received a Platinum award at ISRA 2024 is the Horticulture Farming program on Peatlands, managed by RU II Sungai Pakning. This program offers solutions to the community in Bengkalis Regency for farming on peatlands and utilizing clean energy for water pump engines.
At the same event, Pertamina Group also won the Social Responsibility Person of the Year award from ISRA Awards 2024, awarded to the President Director of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk, Julfi Hadi.
