Jakarta, July 28, 2021 - PT Pertamina (Persero) increases its commitment to encourage New Renewable Energy (NRE) expansion program in its business. It is in line with the world energy transition trend, the demands for Carbon Credit, and the implementation of ESG; environmental, social, and good governance.
Through the Power and New & Renewable Energy (PNRE) subholding, Pertamina is currently building a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) facility at the Pertamina Cilacap Refinery, Central Java. This PLTS network includes other supporting facilities for the Cilacap Refinery with a total capacity of 1.34 Mega Watts (MW).
Acting SVP Corporate Communications & Investor Relations of Pertamina, Fajriyah Usman, said that the total value of the Cilacap Refinery PLTS project is USD 1.3 million. It includes supporting facilities for the Cilacap refinery, such as the Pertamina Cilacap Hospital (RSPC) area, Cilacap Refinery Sports Center, and residential areas in Katilayu and Gunung Simping.
"The power capacity that is being built will reduce about 13.5% of fossil fuels energy currently used for electricity," said Fajriyah.
Fajriyah explained that this project absorbed 67% of local workers. Cumulatively, the absorption of TKDN in this project has reached 46.1%, not including the procurement of batteries or storage systems.
"We hope that the presence of PLTS at the Cilacap Refinery will increase the awareness and concern of the community around the Cilacap Refinery area for clean energy," said Fajriyah.
Fajriah added that the current priority is the broadest possible implementation of NRE in Pertamina's working areas, including the Cilacap refinery. In the future, said Fajriyah, if the PLTS receives a positive response from the surrounding community to use PLTS in their respective homes, PNRE may be able to contribute to the B2B scheme.
Several PLTS projects have been completed by PNRE. It includes PLTS Badak with a capacity of 4 MW and PLTS at several Pertamina's petrol stations with a total capacity of 260 KW. Meanwhile, the PLTS projects currently being built include the Dumai Refinery PLTS with a capacity of 2 MW and the PLTS in the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone (SEZ) with a capacity of 2 MW. Pertamina also has other NRE portfolios, namely Geothermal with a total installed capacity of 672 MW, PLTBg (Bio Gas Power Plant) Sei Mangkei with a capacity of 2 MW, and PLTBg Kwala Sawit and Pagar Merbau in North Sumatra with 2 x 1 MW capacity.**
