Palembang, May 23, 2022 - This year, to support community-based climate change control, PT Refinery Pertamina Internasional Refinery Unit III Plaju (Plaju Pertamina Refinery) is committed to supporting Program Kampung Iklim (Proklim) implementation in Palembang City.
In 2022, Pertamina Plaju Refinery targets the addition of three new Kampung Iklim locations, including the RW 03 Kelurahan Bagus Kuning, RW 01 Kelurahan Komperta, and RW 02 Kelurahan Talang Bubuk.
Through various Social & Environmental Responsibility (TJSL)/Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs, Pertamina Plaju Refinery, one of Pertamina's oil refinery units operating in Palembang City ring 1 area, encouraged Proklim implementation in Plaju District in 2021.
Last year, the Pertamina Plaju Refinery had succeeded in replicating the location of Kampung Iklim in Plaju District, Palembang City, into eleven locations. Two locations won the Main Proklim category (RW 2 and RW 16 Plaju Ulu Village), and eight locations won the intermediate Proklim category.
The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) managed Proklim to involve the community in adaptation actions, strengthening capacity, and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
This program is intended to encourage the adaptation dissemination and mitigation actions implemented in other locations. It is also to give recognition to local governments and communities involved, as well as those who have supported their implementation.
The Palembang City Government itself focuses on supporting the Proklim implementation in Pempek City. Altur Febriansyah, the Mayor's Expert Staff for Finance, Revenue, Law and Human Rights, claimed, Proklim, as a national movement for community-based climate change control, has received positive responses from various parties.
It was conveyed during the Palembang City Proklim Development Coordination Meeting held in the Parameswara Room, Palembangs Mayor's Office, on Thursday (19/5/2022). "The increasing number of climate village locations in Palembang City and the increasing active role of Proklim implementers and supporters are indicators that real action to control climate change continues," he said.
For this reason, he appreciates the active participation of various parties who have supported Proklim implementation in Palembang City. "This proves the enthusiasm to stimulate climate change control in Palembang," he added.
Additional locations and an increase in level every year targeted by the Pertamina Plaju Refinery are aligned with the President of the Republic of Indonesia's target to add 20,000 locations by 2024. “It is our collective duty to work together to contribute ideas or work in the field according to their respective responsibilities," Altur continued.
As a concrete action to realize climate resilience and a lifestyle with low greenhouse gas emissions, the involvement of all relevant elements and stakeholders is one of the keys to the success of the program implementation. Therefore, the Pertamina Plaju Refinery, as an energy processing company, does not want to remain silent on this environmental agenda.
Area Manager of Communication, Relations & CSR of Pertamina Plaju Refinery, Siti Rachmi Indahsari, separately said that her party would still consistently stand as a company supporting Proklim. "As in 2021, we will support the implementation of Proklim in Plaju in 2022," she said.
According to her, it has become an obligation for the Pertamina Plaju refinery to support the environmental conservation in a sustainable manner. "Of course we are ready, caring for the environment in the area around the company's operations is an obligation that we must fulfill, in the context of participation to build strength to overcome climate change," said Rachmi.
In the future development implementation, Pertamina Plaju Refinery will collaborate with the Plaju District Government and several villages within it. "The slick collaboration between the business world and the government that we established with Plaju District in 2021 will certainly be repeated," she said.
The continuous efforts of the Pertamina Plaju Refinery in supporting the Proklim implementation in Plaju District are in line with the thirteenth Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely taking rapid action to address climate change, and its impacts.
Thus, the oldest oil refinery company in Indonesia has succeeded in maintaining social relations with the community through fulfilling the Social aspects according to the ESG (Environmental, Social, & Governance) criteria.**
