Jakarta, August 26, 2024 - A fire incident occurred at RS Pusat Pertamina (RSPP) on Monday, August 26, 2024, around 1:15 PM local time (WIB). The fire broke out on the 4F floor, which is currently under renovation. Fortunately, the location was not in a patient care area, minimizing the immediate risk to patients.
At the time of the incident, RSPP was nursing 134 patients in the inpatient wards. The hospital management quickly activated emergency procedures to evacuate patients to safer locations, specifically Building B on the 1st floor and the Emergency Room (ER). The evacuation ran swiftly and orderly. Thus, the patients were successfully relocated without any casualties.
"Patient safety is our top priority. All patients have been moved to a safe location and are receiving the necessary medical care," said Dr. Lia Gardenia Partakusuma, Acting President Director of PT Pertamina Bina Medika IHC (IHC). Medical staff and nurses remained by the patient's side until the situation was declared safe.
The fire was successfully extinguished around 2:30 PM WIB, thanks to the quick response of the firefighter team. Seven firefighter units from the South Jakarta Fire Department and Pertamina were deployed to the scene. Additionally, about 20 fire trucks were on standby around the RSPP area to ensure the fire was completely out and did not spread to other zones.
"We greatly appreciate the cooperation of the Fire Department and Pertamina for their swift response to this incident. With their help, the fire was under control shortly," Dr. Lia added.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the authorities. RSPP management with the HSSE team of PT Pertamina (Persero) was on-site to ensure all safety procedures were properly followed and patients could return to their wards once the situation was safe.
"We are committed to continuously improving safety standards at all hospital units under the IHC. We deeply regret this incident and will take preventive measures to ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future," Dr. Lia said.
Dr. Lia also hoped the patients would recover quickly and return home safely. She emphasized the importance of patient safety and comfort as part of IHC's commitment to providing the best healthcare services.
"We extend our deepest gratitude to all involved in handling this incident, including the medical team, nurses, security personnel, and firefighters. We hope we will not face similar incidents in the future," Dr. Lia concluded.
