Jakarta, September 24, 2024 – PT Pertamina (Persero) once again presents education and socialization of the 2024 Anugerah Jurnalistik Pertamina (AJP/Pertamina Journalism Awards) in Bandung, West Java, from September 22 to 24, 2024.
Pertamina invites media professionals in the Western Java (JBB) Territory to directly visit Pertamina's clean energy business in the region while educating the media on carbon emission-free business practices.
The Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, stated that Pertamina is committed to prioritizing sustainable energy business and supporting the government in achieving the net-zero emissions target.
One of the efforts includes visiting the clean energy business development in the JBB Territory, specifically the Java 1 Gas and Steam Power Plant (PLTGU). "Pertamina operates the largest PLTGU in Southeast Asia with a capacity of 1,760 MW, using the latest single-shaft combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) technology to save electricity production costs," explained Fadjar.
The Java 1 PLTGU also marks a significant achievement, adding to Pertamina's portfolio of clean energy utilization, as it can reduce carbon emissions by up to three million tons of CO2 annually.
Fadjar further explained that during the 2024 AJP, especially in the JBB region, Pertamina, through its sub-holding, Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (PNRE), will also raise media awareness about carbon emission-free practices, including carbon neutrality implementation through activities compensated with carbon credits.
These carbon emission-free activities include emissions generated from transportation used as well as waste or garbage produced from food and event decorations, which can generate up to one ton of carbon emissions per person.
"Through this media visit and the 2024 AJP socialization, we hope that media colleagues will be inspired to create journalistic works while also receiving an emission reduction certificate as a form of carbon offset for every media professional attending the 2024 AJP in the JBB Territory," Fadjar elaborated.
"Not only in the JBB region but Fadjar also hopes that in the future, every AJP event held nationally can prioritize carbon emission-free practices," Fadjar added.
Through the JBB Territory, Pertamina also invites media professionals to visit the operational areas of the petrochemical sector and its derivatives. Pertamina, through PT Polytama Propindo, has produced the main polypropylene resin in Indonesia, with a capacity of 300,000 tons per year.
In addition to operational business socialization, Pertamina invites media professionals to visit non-business pillars, namely Pertamina's CSR program, by directly visiting the conservation of Cinta Lake, managed by Pertamina’s Commercial & Trading Sub-holding, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga. This water conservation effort has been revitalized since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 and has now become a tourist destination in the Karawang area, West Java.
"Cinta Lake is part of the 'Ngabedahkeun Walahar' program, a community empowerment-based water conservation initiative led by environmental, economic, and social advocates in Walahar Village," Fadjar explained.
The Cinta Lake educational tourism area emphasizes K3 (occupational health and safety), clean energy, local economic development, and creating an integrated and clean environment.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
