Fostering More Than 8700 MSEs in the Industrial Sector, Pertamina Instills the Spirit to be a Medium and Large Industry

Jakarta, June 22, 2021 – Almost all micro and small enterprises (MSEs) sectors have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, including the industrial sector. PT Pertamina (Persero), through the MSE Funding Program, took part in helping the MSEs to rise and be adaptive. Namely, with the distribution of business capital and the MSE upgrading development program.

Acting Senior Vice President Corporate Communications & Investor Relations of Pertamina, Fajriyah Usman, said MSEs in the industrial sector play an important role, especially in terms of employment. "This sector has great potential because it has a great opportunity to become a medium and even large industry," she said.

Pertamina fostered many different types of MSEs in the industrial sector. It includes the food and beverage industry, batik, apparel, footwear, children's toys, and many other types of industries. "The micro and small industries can become factories for food, beverages, clothing, footwear, and large companies that started from MSEs," said Fajriyah.

From 1993 to 2020, continued Fajriyah, Pertamina has fostered more than 8,700 partners engaged in this sector. Where each of these MSEs has a relatively large number of workers compared to other industries. In total, there will be more parties who will benefit from Pertamina's assistance.

One of the fostered partners engaged in this sector is Rehana. The owner of the CV Sinar Brahma Rasid business produces various safety gloves made of leather. Now he empowers about 40 people to help his business. "We had been affected by the pandemic. However, thanks to Pertamina's capital assistance, we were able to increase our production performance," he said.

In addition, from the food industry sector, there is I Ketut Widana. The owner of UD Utami is now a successful processed chocolate producer in Bali. As his business continues to grow, he empowers around 30 people to help him. In addition to being profit-oriented, this effort is a form of sociopreneur-based business that assists many small communities.

According to Fajriyah, through the MSE Funding Program, Pertamina wants to provide energy that can move the economy--energy that fuels and energy that produce sustainable growth.

Pertamina also supports SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) point 8 achievements. Namely, increasing inclusive and sustainable economic growth, productive and comprehensive employment opportunities, and decent work for all through implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) based programs throughout its operational area. It is part of the environmental and social responsibility to realize economic benefits in the community.**
