Balikpapan, May 24, 2024 - The Climate Village Program (Proklim) Semarak Muara Rapak, fostered by PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) Balikpapan Unit, recently welcomed a visit from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) for the evaluation of Proklim Semarak's nomination for the Lestari category. This evaluation took place over two days, on May 20 and 21, 2024.
The Head of North Balikpapan Subdistrict Muhammad Fadli attended the event, demonstrating the government's support for Proklim Semarak within his jurisdiction. In his speech, Fadli emphasized the importance of Proklim in addressing the impacts of climate change.
"Climate change is happening very quickly in Balikpapan. For example, it might rain in the morning and then become hot shortly after. The community needs to adapt and mitigate these rapid changes," Fadli stated.
Due to its continuous development efforts, Proklim Semarak has been nominated as a candidate for the Proklim Lestari category this year. Since 2020, Proklim Semarak has held the Main (Utama) title. During the evaluation process, ten participants from Proklim Semarak were interviewed by the judges.
The evaluation began with a presentation by the chairperson of Proklim Semarak, detailing the activities conducted since achieving the Main title and now being a Lestari candidate. The presentation included initiatives such as waste management and reforestation.
On the second day of the evaluation, Tuesday, the judges visited ten Proklim Semarak participants located in ten different neighborhoods: Prapatan, Gunung Bahagia, Sumber Rejo, Karang Rejo, Mekar Sari, Gunung Samarinda, Sepinggan Raya, Baru Ilir, Gunung Sari Ulu, and Telaga Sari.
Throughout the data collection and field verification, PT KPI Balikpapan Unit provided continuous support to ensure the success of these activities.
Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero), stated that Pertamina is committed to addressing climate change in line with the Indonesian Government's commitment to the Paris Agreement.
"Pertamina and its subholding, including PT KPI, involve the community in environmental conservation. This is the foundation of the Proklim initiated by PT KPI," Fadjar emphasized.
Meanwhile, Lifania Riski Nugrahani, Acting Area Manager of Communication, Relations & CSR of PT KPI Balikpapan Unit, expressed her hope of achieving the Proklim Lestari level.
