Jakarta, March 5, 2021 - Pertamina fostered almost all micro and small (MSE) business sectors through the Partnership Program. The MSEs who become fostered partners are then assisted until they become upgrades MSEs. One way to accelerate MSEs upgrading is through the Pertamina UMK Academy program, which was held at the end of 2020.
Desi Oktavia became one of the hundreds of participants who took part in the activity. The owner of Sulaman & Bordiran Putri Ayu was declared graduated after completing the Go Global class's entire series of activities. "I am grateful to have this opportunity, I have got much knowledge for export, and we are ready to do that," she said.
She hopes that embroidery can be seen in the international arena. It is because Bukit Tinggi embroidery has different characteristics. The embroidery results have a denser and smoother texture. Because the embroidery is beautiful, the material chosen must be lighter. Therefore, Sulaman & Bordiran Putri Ayu can compete with other businesses.
Her desire to export embroidery products arose after she participated in exhibitions abroad. At least several neighboring countries such as Malaysia and Singapore, have visited to show off their products. "Countries with Malay family become our target if there is an opportunity to export later," she said.
Desi said that the embroidery shop belonged to was passed down since the 80s. Her mother, Mislaili, started the business. "In the past, the mother sewed it herself, and the sale is entrusted in someone's cloth shop," she said. Before the monetary crisis, the price for his embroidered garments was only around IDR 50 thousand. But today, the price of one embroidery style can reach IDR 3.5 million or an average of as low as IDR 600 thousand.
Desi's embroidery has started to become Pertamina's fostered partner since 2018. A year after joining, Sulaman Putri Ayu immediately participated in the International Handicraft Trade Fair (Inacraft) event in April 2019 in Jakarta. A golden opportunity MSEs from Minang rarely enjoy. Moreover, the Inacraft exhibition was opened by President Joko Widodo and was attended by hundreds of thousands of people.
According to Desi, Pertamina provides a promotional space that is beyond the expectations of MSEs players. The increase in orders due to the massive promotion has an impact on the needs of employees. She also recruits many neighbors and homemakers to help her business with a total of 15 people. As a form of ESG implementation in the social sector and SDGs, point 8 provides work and supports economic growth.
Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications & Investor Relations of Pertamina, Agus Suprijanto, added that Pertamina would support the development of local products like Desi had done. These MSMEs will continue to be developed with the Go Digital, Go Modern, Go Online, and Go Global coaching schemes. "Pertamina will help so that the nation's cultural products can go international and be recognized by the world community, through exhibitions and efforts to sell abroad or export. Through the spirit of Energizing You, Pertamina always assists so that they can be more developed and independent," he concluded.**
