Jakarta, November 5, 2024 – PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI), Pertamina’s refining and petrochemical business subsidiary, continues to expand globally, garnering multiple awards at the Taiwan Innotech Expo 2024 (October 19). Taiwan Innotech Expo is a prestigious event featuring participation from over 431 companies and research organizations from 20 countries. Out of the 1,140 advanced technologies showcased, KPI’s innovations from Balikpapan and Dumai refineries captivated the global audience, earning several top distinctions.
This year, Balikpapan Refinery secured one of the highest honors, the “Gold Medal,” for its innovation titled “Alternative FOAM Concentrate for Fire Fighting Training and Fire Facilities Performance Test.” This innovation is crucial in supporting KPI’s readiness for fire emergencies by utilizing a high-quality concentrate type. In addition to the “Gold Medal,” this innovation also received a special award from Korea, the “Korea Invention Promotion Association Special Award.”
Balikpapan Refinery also won the “Silver Medal” for its innovation titled “Utilizing Vacuum Column Intermediate Product, Paraffinic Oil Distillate (POD), as Automotive Diesel Oil (Diesel Fuel) Component.” Through this innovation, Balikpapan Refinery uses Paraffinic Oil Distillate (POD) as a component in diesel fuel. POD is more stable and contains fewer contaminants, resulting in cleaner combustion and reduced emissions. Besides the “Silver Medal,” this innovation also received the “Special Award” from Thailand, the “National Research Council of Thailand Special Award.”
Meanwhile, Dumai Refinery achieved a “Silver Medal” for its innovation titled “Realizing PT KPI’s Profitability & Sustainability Strategy related to Crude Intake & Selection Through Operation Model Engineering and Super Heavy Crude Management in Refinery Dumai.” Through this innovation, Dumai Refinery created value equivalent to USD 265 million via process engineering and feedstock management, producing a valuable new product, Low Sulphur Marine Fuel Oil. For this achievement, Dumai Refinery received the “Special Award” from Taiwan, the “World Invention Intellectual Property Association Special Award.”
The Director of Human Resources & Business Support of KPI, Tenny Elfrida, stated before competing on the global stage, KPI’s innovators underwent a rigorous selection process at both the corporate and national levels. “A culture of continuous learning is fundamental at KPI to support the company’s profitability and sustainability. In the future, KPI will continue to support innovation implementation in refinery operating units,” Tenny emphasized.
These innovators are from teams representing the refineries, namely “FT PROVE PERFOAMANCE” (Balikpapan Refinery), “PC PROVE MINION” (Dumai Refinery), and “PC PROVE JEKPOD” (Balikpapan Refinery).
On a related note, the Vice President of Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero), Fadjar Djoko Santoso, stated that Pertamina consistently encourages innovation and business breakthroughs across all business lines to fulfill future challenges.
