Graduated from UMKM Academy and Upgraded, This Fostered Partner Empowers Dozens of School Dropouts and Women Weave Silk

Jakarta, January 22, 2021 – Pertamina UMKM Academy : Fast Track which was held for two months at the end of 2020 proved to be effective. There are many fostered partners who gained benefits by participating on the event. The main thing is to be upgraded MSMEs because they are declared that they meet one of required criteria.

One of them is Isam Samsudin. The owner of Tenun Sutra Isam Samsudin MSME has been in the business world of Garut's special silk fabrics for quite a long time. The business that he owns is now included in the upgraded MSME category. This is because, since becoming Pertamina’s fostered partner, his business has grown rapidly.

"Our business started with only 7 employees. Now it has multiplied to 55 people. They are neighbors around me where many children dropped out of school and there are unemployed housewives. We empower them so that they can increase their family income,” he said. This is a good thing because it is an implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) in the social sector.

With the increase of workers, automatically more equipment are needed. With revolving capital obtained from Pertamina, Isam spent a lot of it on weaving tools. When he started his business, he only had 5 non-machine weaving tools (ATBM). Currently, since he is under Pertamina's assistance, he has 35 ATBMs.

“I am very fortunante and grateful being Pertamina’s fostered partner. Not only capital loans, but also continuously fostered in running the business," he added. Isam always applied the coaching done to him. Until finally, his business also experienced a significant increase in turnover. Originally from IDR 25 million per month, now it can reach hundreds of millions per month. The majority of the marketing scope of the product is in the Jakarta area, partly in Bandung, Bali and Surabaya.

During his participation in Pertamina UMKM Academy 2020 : Fast Track event, he gained many new information related to things that could develop his business. As a MSME that is developing rapidly, he was placed in Go Global class. “There are a lot of new knowledge about the procedures for exporting products abroad. Hopefully I can get the opportunity soon so that my products can go international,” he said.

Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications & Investor Relations of Pertamina, Agus Suprijanto added that Pertamina appreciates Isam’s business. According to him, this business has helped many people through the jobs provided. So that it can be one of the implementations of point 8 SDGs.

In addition, Pertamina will also encourage other fostered MSMEs to upgrade like Isam. Through several roadmaps, the coaching starts from Go Modern, Go Digital, Go Online, and Go Global. “Through the Partnership Program, Pertamina will support all of its fostered partners to be able to reach the final guidance roadmap, and market their products widely and globally,” he concluded.**
