Jakarta, April 13, 2021 - PT Pertamina (Persero) supports the 4.0 industry transformation by accelerating the energy transition agenda, which encourages the transition of energy consumption from fossil to new and renewable energy (NRE).
It is in line the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo's direction, at the Hannover Messe 2021 opening. The President emphasized three main aspects in preparing Indonesia's Industry 4.0 roadmap. Namely, strengthening human resources, creating a conducive investment climate, and investing in green development.
According to President Jokowi, the pandemic is a momentum to carry out green development. For this reason, several breakthroughs have been made in Indonesia, including biodiesel or green diesel development from palm oil and the installation of solar panels. These projects will also create new jobs while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, said as one of the participants in the Hannover Messe 2021 event, Pertamina supports green and sustainable development as outlined in 8 energy transition initiatives.
“We are taking the energy transition very seriously, which is a common goal to reduce global warming and achieve energy sustainability," said Nicke welcoming the Hannover Messe, which took place virtually on 12-16 April 2021.
According to Nicke, the government has set a renewable energy mix target of 23% by 2025 and 31% by 2050. For this reason, Pertamina, an energy state-owned enterprise, is expanding its involvement in the Indonesian energy industry by increasing its contribution to the advancement of the energy mix.
To achieve this target, Pertamina converts refineries to produce green fuel such as green diesel, green avtur, green gasoline, and continuing bio-energy development such as biomass and bioethanol. Pertamina also optimizes the installed capacity of geothermal energy, as well as the utilization of green hydrogen.
Collaborating with several other SOEs, Pertamina has also taken a strategic role in the EV Battery and Energy Store ecosystems integration in Indonesia.
"We are also strengthening integrated gasification to serve customers in the transportation, household, and industrial sectors to reduce emissions," continued Nicke.
Then, in the power generation sector, Nicke added that Pertamina also continues to increase new and renewable energy through solar power plants in various areas of Pertamina's operations and the biogas power plant in Sei Mangkei. Efforts to reduce carbon footprint are carried out by implementing Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage to increase production in several oil and gas fields.
Nicke assured that Pertamina would continue its transformation by utilizing its capabilities, portfolios, expanding partnerships, and strengthening financial capabilities.
"More importantly, we will continue to work in harmony with the community through the implementation of the ESG (Environment, Social & Governance) initiative in all aspects of Pertamina's operations and business. Pertamina will also encourage improvements in health, education, economic empowerment in an inclusive manner as in the spirit of Energizing Sustainable Future," concluded Nicke.**
