Depok, November 1, 2024 - PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) at the Cimanggis Offtake Station has launched the HARUM MANIS program (Harjamukti Unggul Masyarakat Optimis), an initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of life for the residents of Harjamukti, Depok, West Java.
The HARUM MANIS program is a response to overcome the long-standing issue of waste accumulation in the Harjamukti area. The program focuses on empowering the community to manage waste in ways that provide social and economic benefits, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children. Its broader goal is to create a healthier and more sustainable living environment.
Through the HARUM MANIS program, PGN promotes community-based waste management activities that will bring environmental, social, and economic benefits to the residents of RW 10 Harjamukti. Income generated from waste processing will help sustain a public space that is friendly to the elderly and children while fostering an inclusive and comfortable social environment for all residents.
"The HARUM MANIS program not only addresses the waste challenges in Harjamukti but also generates economic benefits for the community. PGN hopes that through this program, the people of Harjamukti will enjoy a better quality of life while supporting a greener and more sustainable environment," said Corporate Secretary of PGN, Fajriyah Usman.
One key component of the HARUM MANIS program is the Anyelir 2 Waste Bank, which processes organic and inorganic waste. Some of the products from the Waste Bank include aromatic candles made from used cooking oil and eco-enzymes that convert household waste into multipurpose cleaning agents, plant fertilizers, pest repellents, and even topical treatments for wounds. Additionally, the program features eco-bricks made from simple inorganic waste to create chairs.
"There is also the Citizen Hub initiative, a public space utilized as a community activity center. This integrated public area serves as a gathering space for people of all ages in RW 10 Harjamukti. Also used for socio-economic activities, as a space for social and literacy activities, and for green economy initiatives," Fajriyah explained.
The Social-Economic Space is designed for community members to engage in various social activities, such as enjoying a communal park equipped with children's playgrounds and exercise equipment for the elderly and spaces for educational activities, youth creativity, and exploration.
Meanwhile, the Green Economy Space includes a community economic hub featuring a corner for MSMEs and a small farming area managed by a local farmers' group in RW 10 Harjamukti. Healthcare services such as integrated health posts (Posyandu) and elderly care posts (Posbindu) are also available to improve access to health services in the area. All these spaces are environmentally friendly, using renewable energy sources like solar panels to power the facilities.
"The program also introduces the community to environmentally friendly energy usage through the Renewable Energy Park for Children and the Elderly. This park utilizes solar panels, transforming sunlight into electricity to power activities at the Citizen Hub, including park lighting. There is also kinetic energy generated from children's playground equipment and elderly exercise tools, which is stored in batteries used for lighting," Fajriyah added.
The subdistrict head of Cimanggis, Dody Setiawan, welcomed the initiative positively, saying, "The use of solar panels as a clean energy source in Cimanggis District is a new development for the community. With these solar panels, we can provide long-term benefits for residents."
Fajriyah further noted that this eco-friendly park is part of the company’s response to climate change. The activities aim to help reduce carbon emissions, and the park is also expected to serve as an educational space for children.
Another initiative under the HARUM MANIS program is Poshemat, short for "Posyandu Hebat Masyarakat Kuat Harjamukti" (Harjamukti Strong and Healthy Community Health Post). This program empowers the community by improving public health, focusing on the issue of stunting, a national priority. The program collaborates with the private sector to address this issue.
"PGN’s Cimanggis Offtake Station is committed to playing a role in addressing stunting in Harjamukti. In addition to targeting stunting, the program also supports the elderly. The Kelompok Lansia Berdaya initiative seeks to enhance this vulnerable group’s physical, psychological, and social well-being, fostering greater social cohesion," Fajriyah added.
In a separate statement, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication at PT Pertamina (Persero), expressed Pertamina’s commitment to maintaining balance in nature, the environment, and society through various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.
"The HARUM MANIS program, developed by PGN, is a testament to Pertamina's commitment to supporting the community as part of its sustainable business approach," Fadjar stated.
