Holding the Largest Refinery Maintenance in Balongan, Pertamina Absorbs Nearly 15,000 Workers

Balongan, March 9, 2022 – As a commitment to improving the performance and reliability aspects of the refinery, Pertamina through PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (PT KPI) Refinery Balongan Unit officially held a refinery maintenance activity with the largest workforce scale in early March 2022. Refinery maintenance activities that absorb nearly 15,000 workers were appointed by the Indonesian Record Museum (MURI) as one of the refinery maintenance activities with the largest workforce absorption in 2022. The strategic value of the Balongan refinery, expected to generate 150,000 barrels of gasoline and non-fuel products, cannot be separated from PT KPI Balongan Unit's high commitment to sustaining the refinery's conductivities.

Starting the refinery maintenance activities, the Board of Directors of PT KPI and the Regent of Indramayu, Nina Agustina, attended the 'Grand Safety Talk' event, held in the operational area of PT KPI Balongan Unit on Monday (7/3).

On this occasion, the President Director of PT KPI, Djoko Priyono, emphasized that as the largest refinery maintenance activity in Indonesia, the company is always oriented to the safety aspect. "All activities during the refinery maintenance process must lead to the target of achieving Zero Accident, On Quality, On Schedule, and On Budget," said Djoko.

Furthermore, Djoko also emphasized that PT KPI is committed to increasing the multiplier effect of each company's activities to improve the community’s welfare. The majority of the workers involved in maintaining the refinery are the locals. This proves that PT KPI's spirit in overseeing this project is not only profit-oriented. KPI also has company integrity in ensuring energy security in Indonesia and providing a significant socioeconomic impact through the absorption of local workers.

Nina Agustina, the Regent of Indramayu present at the Grand Safety Talk, expressed her appreciation for the multiplier effects created by the refinery maintenance activities. “Alhamdulillah, thank you, Mr. Director (PT KPI). This activity, which absorbs more than 14 thousand workers, is a labor-intensive job for Indramayu people," said Nina Agustina. Agreeing with Djoko, Nina hoped for PT KPI Balongan Unit safe operation. "Hopefully, Pertamina's targets to achieve Zero Accident, On Quality, On Schedule, are all successful," added Nina.

General Manager of PT KPI Refinery Balongan Unit, Diandoro Arifian, explained that refinery maintenance activities aim to maintain operational excellence, ensure equipment operate properly, and increase production capacity to achieve the company's vision, mission, and performance targets. "We are targeting this maintenance to all units at the Balongan refinery, including the Primary Process, Secondary Process, and the Utility units," explained Diandoro. He further conveyed that PT KPI Refinery Balongan Unit involves contractors of more than 90 companies, consisting of local Indramayu and national companies, to support maintenance activities at the Balongan Refinery.

The Balongan refinery is one of Pertamina's refinery units that has been operating since 1994 and has the highest level of complexity of 11.9 Nelson Complexity Index. With a current production capacity of 125 thousand barrels per day, the refinery produces refined products, including Gasoline, Gasoil, Avtur, and Polypropylene. PT KPI is now carrying out the mandate through the National Strategic Project "RDMP Balongan" to increase production capacity to 150 thousand barrels per day. Later, the Balongan RDMP project is targeted to improve product quality so that it is equivalent to Euro V, which is increasingly environmentally friendly.**
