Subang, October 12, 2022 - PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Subang Field, part of Zone 7 Subholding Upstream Regional Java with Cikadu Village, Cijambe District, Subang Regency's residents have developed a business to process pineapple leaves into high-value commodities. The program, entitled Utilization of Pineapple Leaf Fiber or PESONA Subang, was inspired by the pineapples, which are the hallmark of Subang Regency.
Not fixated on the fruit only, PEP Subang Field sees pineapple leaf fiber as a potential to be developed from this commodity. Farmers frequently do not use this part of the pineapple plant properly even though it contains high economic value natural fiber. Pineapple leaf fiber can be processed into environmentally friendly textiles (green textiles), used as a resin mixture, and paper material.
The Subang Enchantment Program supports the pineapple leaf fiber processing business that has been developed by Cikadu Village, Cijambe District, Subang Regency's residents. This program seeks to encourage pineapple leaf waste productive utilization through pineapple leaf fiber extraction. This stems from the large pineapple leaf waste that causes problems in the Subang pineapple farming area. It is hoped that pineapple leaf fiber production can be a solution to reduce waste while increasing the people's economy.
Ndirga Andri Sisworo, Senior Manager of Subang Field, said that Subang's Pesona is the company's contribution to environmental conservation around its operational area. This program seeks to reduce pineapple leaf waste and turn it into a natural fiber commodity with high economic value. Both of these are expected to improve the environment's quality, as well as help increase the residents' economic productivity.
Alan Sahroni, one of the activists and the Enchantment Subang program's beneficiary, expressed his pleasure to be involved in each activity. "I am very grateful because with the Pesona program, we can get various facilities, especially in improving HR skills through training activities, both technical and non-technical".
Through the Subang Pesona program, PEP Subang Field supports the 12th Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely Waste management for the community's welfare. Not only improving pineapple leaf waste management but also making pineapple leaves a high-value commodity that can improve the socio-economic quality of the surrounding community.
Furthermore, the Pesona Subang program is an implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) which is run by Subholding Upstream as a company that is environmentally sound, socially responsible, and carries out good corporate governance.**
