Tangerang, May 14, 2024 – Pertamina Persero has unveiled its energy resilience and environmental sustainability strategies. These strategies were detailed directly by the President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, during her participation as a panelist in the CEO Forum, The 48th Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) Convention & Exhibition on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.
Nicke stated that energy is a catalyst for economic growth. Therefore, at the same time, Indonesia, especially Pertamina, needs to secure energy while reducing carbon emissions to support the government's target of Net Zero Emissions by 2060.
“We started by strengthening our legacy business by maximizing and building integrated infrastructure from upstream, midstream, and downstream to enhance our accessibility. According to our index, the biggest challenge in Indonesia is accessibility, followed by affordability. Therefore, we must address these issues correctly in our strategic planning,” She said.
Nicke explained that Pertamina, a State-Owned Enterprise (SOE), implements a new strategic plan. Pertamina is gradually adopting energy transition. On one hand, Pertamina ensures energy resilience by strengthening its oil and gas business. On the other hand, it is also enhancing low-carbon business development to meet the net zero emission target by 2060.
“We can enhance bioenergy programs, biodiesel, biogasoline, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and also carbon balancing such as nature-based solutions and CCUS (carbon capture, utilization, and storage),” She added.
Pertamina also has a mandate to ensure affordable energy for the public while boosting purchasing power through industrial growth in Indonesia.
She admitted that these operations were operated while maintaining sustainable performance as Pertamina's commitment as a responsible company. Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) is a priority for Pertamina, proven by Pertamina’s 34% reduction in carbon emissions in 2023 from its internal processes.
“So these are all Pertamina’s strategies on how well we manage the balance between energy resilience and environmental sustainability. We believe that all these programs have a key component, which is digitalization, sustainability, and the readiness of human resources and technological advancements,” she concluded.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
