Ternate, August 24, 2023 – Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Papua Maluku, through the Fuel Terminal in Ternate, held its regular event of releasing hatchlings into the wild, specifically baby turtles, as part of the "Joint Sustainable Biodiversity Action" theme at Kastela Beach, Ternate City, on Wednesday (August 23).
The Manager of Pertamina Fuel Terminal in Ternate, the Chief of North Maluku Regional Police, the Village Head of Kastela, Kastela Gamlamo Ecotourism Group (Pokdarwis), and the local community attended the event. It began with the release of Hawksbill Turtle hatchlings (Eretmochelys imbricata).
"Today, we released 20 Hawksbill Turtle hatchlings. This event has become routine; over the past two years, we have released around 400 hatchlings," stated Sebedeus Pangandaheng, the Manager of Pertamina Patra Niaga Fuel Terminal Ternate.
He explained that the released hatchlings were the community-based conservation efforts through Pertamina Patra Niaga Fuel Terminal Ternate's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program within the company's first-ring area.
"We appreciate Kastela Gamlamo Beach Pokdarwis and Tete Ama for their dedication to biodiversity conservation, particularly in safeguarding turtle conservation at Kastela Beach. They are especially part of our CSR initiatives, along with our array of stakeholders who accompanied this event," he expressed.
Simultaneously, the Chief of North Maluku Regional Police, Police Inspector General Midi Siswoko, commended Pertamina Patra Niaga Fuel Terminal Ternate for its positive commitment to preserving the biodiversity of turtles.
"It is hoped that Fuel Terminal Ternate's commitment to turtle preservation will yield sustainable positive impacts on marine biota equilibrium, specifically since turtles are protected species," he emphasized.
In addition, the event featured a coastal reforestation initiative at Kastela Beach, involving planting approximately 300 cloves and Capilong tree seedlings, attended by policymakers and the local community.
