Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Inspects Pertamina's Gas Network Readiness in the New Capital City

Jakarta, June 30, 2024 - The Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOE), Erick Thohir, inspected the readiness of SOEs in developing energy facilities and infrastructure in the new Nusantara Capital City (IKN), including the gas network by Pertamina. The natural gas network construction in IKN is carried out by PT Pertamina Gas Negara Tbk (PGN), as Pertamina’s Gas Sub-holding.

Minister Erick Thohir stated that the government, with SOEs, plans to develop a green industrial zone in IKN. Pertamina, as the gas network provider, shows its commitment to providing clean energy in the new capital, Nusantara.

"We plan that within 10 to 15 years, there will be at least a point of industry, but a green industrial estate," said Erick.

During the inspection, Deputy President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Wiko Migantoro, explained that for energy provision in IKN, Pertamina will prioritize the gas network.

"We will replace it with a gas network supplied by natural gas. The construction implementation will be integrated with other utilities development such as water channels, gas pipelines, and electricity," said Wiko.

The gas network (jargas) will later be utilized in various vertical housing and detached houses, which are official residences for ministers and employees in IKN. In the Core Government Area (KIPP), the development will be divided into several phases. In the initial phase, PGN is ready to serve customer needs, which are expected to be operational by next August.

In addition to the development of the gas network in IKN, Pertamina is also preparing the Pertamina Sustainable Energy Center, which includes the Pertamina Sustainability Academy, Pertamina Training Institute, and the Pertamina Research and Innovation Center for Sustainable and Low Carbon Technologies.
