MSMEs Go Global: Pertamina Brings Its Fostered Partners to Indonesia Spice Up The World 2024 in Algeria

Jakarta, December 8, 2024 – In supporting Indonesia’s developing tourism and business potential on the global stage, PT Pertamina (Persero), through its subsidiary PT Pertamina Algeria EP (PAEP), collaborated with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Algiers to host an annual event titled “Indonesia Spice Up The World 2024” on December 4-5 in Algeria. This event aims to introduce Indonesia’s tourism, trade, and investment sectors to Africa as a non-traditional market while enhancing Indonesia’s positive image in Algeria.

Through “Indonesia Spice Up The World 2024”, Pertamina seeks to showcase Indonesia's rich cultural heritage embodied in traditional cuisine, spice products, and other MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) products. This initiative also promotes Indonesia’s tourism internationally by highlighting the uniqueness of its culinary traditions and spices, which are part of the nation’s cultural legacy.

"As a company committed to supporting national economic growth, Pertamina aims to play an active role in introducing Indonesia to the international community, both through tourism promotion and by empowering local MSMEs to compete globally," said Fadjar Djoko Santoso, VP of Corporate Communication of Pertamina.

The event features various activities such as culinary exhibitions, cooking demonstrations, and seminars on the global market potential for Indonesian MSME products, particularly spice-based ones. It is expected to increase international awareness of Indonesia’s flagship products, including sambal, rendang, and various traditional spices, while expanding market opportunities for Indonesian MSMEs.

Pertamina also showcased MSME products like Puntang Coffee and batik, emphasizing Indonesia’s cultural heritage. Batik was highlighted as an integral part of Indonesia’s identity, complementing the richness of its spices.

"Through this event, we want to demonstrate that Indonesia offers more than just spices; it also has batik, recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Batik is a profound symbol of Indonesia’s identity, and we aim to introduce it to the world as part of a broader cultural experience," Fadjar added.

Last week’s event in Algeria featured the best batik collections from Pertamina’s fostered MSMEs, including the Jokotole Collection. Visitors learned about the batik-making process and the meanings behind its intricate patterns.

"As part of this initiative, Pertamina invites the public and industry players to appreciate and preserve Indonesia’s cultural heritage while promoting its flagship products internationally," Fadjar concluded.

As a national energy company, Pertamina not only focuses on the energy business but also actively empowers communities through its CSR programs and MSME development. Through various initiatives, Pertamina continues to drive economic self-reliance for the Indonesian people.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
