Jakarta, December 20, 2023 - PT Pertamina (Persero), along with its subsidiaries and affiliates, received 34 Gold PROPER awards in the 2023 Company Performance Rating Program for Environmental Management (Program Penilaian Peringkat Kinerja Perusahaan dalam Pengelolaan Lingkungan Hidup/PROPER) from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).
KLHK also rewarded 76 Green PROPER awards to various Pertamina operational units. Pertamina Group's Gold PROPER achievements this year have seen a sharp increase compared to the previous year's 20 Gold PROPER awards. Nationally, Pertamina has secured 43% of the total 79 Gold PROPER awards in 2023. The awards were presented directly by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ma’ruf Amin, on Tuesday (20/12) at Hotel Bidakara, Jakarta.
Moreover, the President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, received the Principal Green Leadership award as the highest-ranking executive of the company to achieve the gold rating. Pertamina also swept three Intermediate Green Leadership awards obtained by the leaders of subholding companies and subsidiaries.
The Principal and Intermediate Green Leadership awards were granted to Pertamina's leaders assessed for their ability to provide solutions to five priority issues concerning the preservation of the earth and humanity: ending poverty, reducing inequality, empowering women, establishing a healthy and sustainable food system, and transitioning energy. It follows Pertamina's success in managing renewable energy, responsible water management, natural resources, and constructing physical infrastructure to maintain ecosystem health and communities, as well as fulfilling societal needs in healthcare, fair treatment, and non-discrimination.
Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ma’ruf Amin, highlighted PROPER as a platform for companies to engage in Sustainable Development. Companies prevent environmental damage and pollution resulting from industrial activities. PROPER also serves as a compass guiding sustainable business practices, where companies apply green economic principles and strive to surpass compliance with regulations.
According to Ma’ruf, PROPER also develops assessment criteria, including lifecycle assessment, social innovation, and green leadership assessment. PROPER requires future assessment transformations to support the government's commitment to strengthening climate action and achieving national development priorities, addressing global challenges' dynamics.
"PROPER should serve as a compass guiding sustainable business practices by applying green economic principles, even driving achievements beyond industries' compliance with environmental regulations. Congratulations to the PROPER award winners, especially those with gold ratings and CEOs receiving green leadership awards. May they become real examples that inspire and drive the performance of other companies," said Ma’ruf.
Nicke Widyawati, the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), expressed gratitude and pride for Pertamina's officers across Indonesia for the PROPER achievements organized by KLHK. However, Nicke stated that there should be no complacency as there are still many challenges ahead for Pertamina to do even better.
"Alhamdulillah, I am very proud and would like to express my gratitude to all officers because this year's achievement is extraordinary. If last year we had only 20 Gold PROPERs, now we have 34. All these sub holdings have extraordinary achievements. We also received 76 Green PROPERs, and I received the Principal Green Leadership. To top that, we also achieved all three Intermediate Green Leadership awards. But we must not be satisfied; there is still much we need to do. Next year must be better, and we can achieve it," said Nicke.
Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, stated that Pertamina's success in securing 34 Gold PROPERs is a tangible manifestation of Pertamina's commitment to operating based on environmental concerns.
