Penajam, 8 April 2018 – Crude oil spills in Nenang Village, Penajam is already clean since 03.00 WITA early this morning (8/4). Since the discovery of the broken point in the underground pipe last night (7/4), Pertamina immediately dispatch its personnel to handle the incident.
The oil spill occurred during the transfer of crude oil distribution from the reserve pipeline at Lawe-lawe Terminal, to Balikpapan Refinery after the broken main pipeline.
Since the oil spill was discovered, Pertamina and the local communities sweep along the pipeline. As the first attempt of anticipation, oil boom is used primarily in Nenang River to prevent the sperad of oil spill. In addition, dispersant spraying around the affected area was also done to support the effort.
To anticipate the public’s complaints, health posts were opened since Thursday (5/4).
Currently, the operations of crude oil distribution to Balikpapan Refinery is back to normal.
Region Manager Communication & CSR Kalimantan Yudy Nugraha explained, the land exposed to oil spill is broight to Lawe-lawe terminal to ensure the safety of surrounding environment. "The distribution operations is already back to normal," he said.
Pertamina would like to express their gratitude to the Regional Government and communities which support the handling process. Moreover, Pertamina will keep on monitor the pipe condition.
"We are grateful that the broken point is discovered and permanently fixed. Despite the rain and tidal waves in the last few days, our team continue to carry out the handling process onsite. It is because during rain or tidal waves, the water level will rise so the handling will be difficult. Moreover, the condition of the location is hard to be reached by heavy equipments,” Yudy explained.
