Sorong, December 31, 2021 - Pertamina EP Papua Field, which is included in Zone 14 of the Eastern Indonesia Subholding Upstream, has a great concern for the environment. This concern is evidenced by the rehabilitation of the Sorong City Tourism Park, West Papua, on Friday (12/24). This activity collaborates with the Center for Natural Resources Conservation (BBKSDA) of West Papua Province and the Matoa Forest Farmers Group (KTH). Pertamina plants local trees to restore, maintain, and improve forest functions. Therefore, their carrying capacity, productivity, and role in supporting life support systems are maintained.
This activity is also a forum for the Transfer of Competence from Management and Staff of Papua Field Zone 14 Regional East Indonesia to the Matoa Forest Farmers Group (KTH) or Communities participating in planting activities. "With this tree planting, we hope that the carrying capacity, productivity, and role of forests in supporting life support systems will be maintained," said Djudjuwanto, General Manager of Zone 14 Regional East Indonesia.
The planting of 500 local trees and 100 fruit trees in a 1-hectare area takes the theme of Oxygen Generator, which is producing oxygen by planting trees. The types of trees planted consisted of 200 matoa trees, 200 merbabu trees, 100 agatis trees, and 100 cempedak trees.
"We hope that this tree will grow large over time. Therefore, it can become the lungs of Sorong City and can be useful for strengthening the function of the forest as a water catchment. In the future, it will become a home for wildlife in the Sorong City Nature Park," said Abdul Rachman PB, Field Manager of Papua Field.
This activity is a continuation of the Biodiversity Conservation program, where in 2020, 500 local trees will be planted so that by 2021 the total tree will reach 1,000 local trees planted in the Rehabilitation Area of the Sorong City Nature Park, West Papua.**
