Jakarta, December 21, 2023 - President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, successfully earned the highest honor of Green Leadership from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) of the Republic of Indonesia. The award was given to appreciate Nicke Widyawati for Pertamina's record-breaking achievement as the recipient of the highest number of Gold PROPER ratings, solidifying Pertamina as a leader in energy transition in Indonesia.
The Green Leadership Excellence award recognizes Nicke's dedication to driving various initiatives and programs at Pertamina, focusing on decarbonizing business operations, implementing energy transition, and increasing renewable energy production.
Under Nicke's leadership, Pertamina has successfully navigated the energy transition while ensuring national energy resilience.
Nicke's role in implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles across Pertamina's business operations has also led to Pertamina's recognition as the world's number one ESG-ranked company in the Integrated Oil and Gas sub-industry, according to the ratings by the ESG Rating Agency Sustainalytics.
As a leader of SOE in Indonesia, Nicke encourages Pertamina to become a leading global energy company with a strong reputation for environmental friendliness, social responsibility, and good corporate governance.
Throughout 2023, Pertamina has allocated resources to its Social and Environmental Responsibility Program, benefiting 344,000 recipients and successfully reducing carbon emissions by 715,000 tons of CO2eq per year.
Securing 34 Gold PROPER Awards
Nicke's leadership has led Pertamina to break new records as the company that achieved the most Gold PROPER awards in Indonesia. Pertamina and its subsidiaries have won 34 Gold PROPER awards in the 2023 Environmental Performance Rating Program (PROPER) by KLHK.
KLHK also awarded 76 Green PROPER awards to various operational units within Pertamina. The Gold PROPER achievements by Pertamina Group this year increased significantly compared to 20 Gold PROPER awards in the previous year. Nationally, Pertamina has secured 43% of the total 79 Gold PROPER awards in 2023.
The Green Leadership Excellence and PROPER awards were given directly by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ma’ruf Amin, on Tuesday, December 20, at Hotel Bidakara, Jakarta.
Vice President Ma’ruf Amin emphasized that PROPER became a platform for companies to participate in Sustainable Development. It encourages companies to prevent environmental damage and pollution resulting from industrial activities. PROPER also acts as a compass to guide sustainable business practices, promoting green economic principles and encouraging achievements beyond compliance with environmental regulations.
"PROPER should be a compass capable of guiding sustainable business practices by applying green economic principles, even driving achievements beyond the industry's compliance with environmental regulations. Congratulations to the PROPER award recipients, especially those in the gold category, and to CEOs receiving the green leadership award. May they serve as real examples that inspire and drive the performance of other companies,” Ma’ruf stated.
Nicke Widyawati, President Director of Pertamina, stated that as a leader in energy transition in Indonesia, Pertamina will continue to operate sustainably and environmentally friendly and at the forefront in ensuring national energy resilience and independence.
“We strive to be the first energy company in the world with low risk in ESG, a source of pride for Indonesia,” Nicke Widyawati said.
Nicke added that energy is a crucial factor in driving economic growth, so energy transition should not compromise the reliability of energy supply.
