Pertamina Advances Domestic Resources for Energy Tenacity

The 6th Pertamina Energy Forum (PEF) themed “Unleashing Domestic Resources for Energy Security” held November 28th-29th, 2018, in Raffles Hotel, Jakarta. The event becomes a place for stakeholders and public to get the latest and accurate information about government and Pertamina’s effort in fulfilling national energy needs. PEF 2018 event, part of Pertamina 61st Anniversary, is attended by more than a thousand people from energy policymakers, government officials, and experts.

“By the theme, we wanted to ask all parties to review existing wealth in Indonesia’s nature and exchange ideas to optimize energy resources, for achieving national energy tenacity and independency,” said President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Nicke Widyawati.

Through PEF 2018, Pertamina aimed to richen scientific repertoire about energy from industry players, also opens cooperation opportunity between industry, government, and other related parties to accelerate Pertamina’s capability. Besides, the forum purpose is to suggest future energy policy, discuss energy sources development and its supporting infrastructure, also investment opportunity in national energy tenacity framework.

Pertamina realized that energy demand will keep increasing every year, as Indonesia population is estimated to grow around 1.24 percent annually while economic growth projected to increase by 5.2-5.3 percent next year.

Widyawati explained that energy demand from electricity sector is projected to surge by 8.15 percent annually until 2030. Meanwhile, demand of energy from transportation sector is projected to increase by 3.43 percent annually. Indonesia government has a very aggresive 2015-2019 plan in developing infrastructure, including 2,600 km road development, 1,000 km toll road, 15 airports, 24 ports, and 3,258 km railways.

“All these developments will be massively increasing people mobilization and goods. And it will boost energy demand in the future,” Widyawati said.

The potency opens big opportunity for all energy sector players, including Pertamina. But challenges are also unavoidable, such as how to secure energy supply for balancing demand amid population increase, economic condition, and infrastructure development.

In accordance with that, Pertamina has several business plans to advance Indonesia nature wealth. For example in biofuel, Pertamina is now assessing green refinary development to process vegetation such as palm oil, sugar cane, and other others to be biofuel.

“For supporting current account deficit decreasing effort and B20 production increase, Pertamina will minimize fuel and LPG gas import. If we can cut 225,000 bbl import, it will be very supporting government’s project. Meanwhile, for B20, we will start developing reen energy projects in Dumai and Plaju,” said Widyawati.

Coordinating Minister for Economy Darmin Nasution, in PEF 2018 keynote speech, stressed that as Indonesia’s biggesr oil and gas company, Pertamina is expected to support government in developing biodiesel B20, the mix of 20 percent vegetable oil and 80 percent petroleum diesel.

“Pertamina as leader in developing B20,” said Nasution.

State-Own Enterprise Ministry’s Deputy of Mining Business, Strategic Industry, and Media, Fajar Hari Sampurno mentioned that Pertamina can achieve 54 trillion Rupiah from creating oil and gas holding, consists of 38 trillion Rupiah from additional shares and 17 trillion Rupiah fresh funding. “Hopefully, Pertamina can increase its investment,” said Sampurno.
