BOGOR, November 9, 2024 – Pertamina Group, through its subsidiary PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, supports the Clean River Program for the Ciliwung River. The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Environment, Diaz Faisal Malik Hendropriyono, the President Director of Pertamina, Simon Aloysius Mantiri, and the President Director of PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional, Taufik Adityawarman, at Saung Alkesa, Bogor, West Java, on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
The activities that began on Saturday morning included a symbolic handover of boats to local communities by the Deputy Minister of Environment, a live teleconference with various Ciliwung River community groups, tree planting, and river cleanup.
Deputy Minister Diaz Hendropriyono stated that the Clean River Program (Prokasih) has been a routine initiative of the Ministry of Environment since 1989. He expressed gratitude to Pertamina for its support of the program. According to him, rivers are vital sources of life for humanity, and thus, all levels of society must collaborate to maintain these waterways’ cleanliness.
"The program with Pertamina and KPI as the host is a significant step. Thank you for your assistance and collaboration, which has enabled us to mobilize these communities for river cleaning. Earlier, I experienced firsthand how challenging the community's task is to clean the river. Therefore, we will continue to work together to support this effort because water is the source of life for humanity, from ancient civilizations to the present day," he said.
Diaz acknowledged that while the river cleanup might not fully resolve the issues, it represents a tangible effort by the Ministry and Pertamina to educate the public about the importance of environmental care and active participation in keeping the surroundings clean.
"We certainly hope that the public will participate and refrain from littering, which can pollute our rivers," he added.
The President Director of Pertamina, Simon Aloysius Mantiri, emphasized that while Pertamina operates in the energy sector, it remains committed to supporting government environmental initiatives through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs.
"We will not stop here, as we recognize the crucial role of community groups in educating the public. We will continue to support and assist government programs through our CSR efforts. These include initiatives such as empowering communities and fostering MSMEs (micro, small, and medium enterprises) to promote economic growth and regional development," Simon explained.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
