Jakarta, October 4, 2024 – PT Pertamina (Persero) has been appointed as the Secretary In Charge (ASIC) of the ASEAN Council on Petroleum (ASCOPE) for the 2024-2029 period. The appointment was made during the 49th ASCOPE Council Meeting on October 1-3 at the Petronas Leadership Center in Selangor, Malaysia. Pertamina will take over the role from PetroVietnam.
The handover of duties as ASIC was officially conducted by Dr. Tran Hong Nam from PetroVietnam, who served as ASIC for the 2019-2024 term, to Henricus Herwin, Senior Vice President of Strategy & Investment of Pertamina, in the presence of the ASCOPE Council Members.
This appointment reflects Pertamina's strong commitment to advancing regional energy cooperation and promoting sustainable energy solutions through four task forces: the Exploration & Production Task Force (EPTF), the Gas Advocacy Task Force (GATF), the Clean Energy Task Force (CETF), and Policy, Research & Capability Building Task Force (PRCBTF). As the newly appointed ASIC, Pertamina will coordinate ASCOPE's key initiatives, enhance energy security, accelerate energy transition, and foster energy innovation across the ASEAN region.
Henricus Herwin, Senior Vice President of Strategy & Investment of Pertamina, stated during the ASCOPE Council Meeting that Pertamina will lead close collaboration with ASCOPE member countries in addressing critical energy challenges, implementing strategic projects, and deepening cooperation through both Government-to-Government (G2G) and Business-to-Business (B2B) approaches.
"Pertamina will also strengthen the trans-ASEAN regulatory framework, enhance capacity-building efforts, and ensure a shared commitment from ASCOPE members regarding the energy transition," Henricus added.
Pertamina's leadership as ASIC in ASCOPE is based on its extensive experience in the energy sector and long-term dedication to regional cooperation. Over the next five years, Pertamina will be crucial in shaping the ASEAN energy landscape, promoting innovation, collaboration, and sustainable practices aligned with global efforts to reduce emissions.
Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, emphasized that Pertamina will make ASCOPE a leading collaboration platform in ASEAN that promotes safe, affordable, and resilient energy solutions for the well-being of all member countries.
“Pertamina’s goal is to facilitate regional cooperation, ensure energy security, and promote sustainable practices to strengthen the prosperity of ASEAN,” Fadjar said.
ASCOPE, established in 1975, is a regional platform for oil and gas companies, national energy companies, and governments to promote collaboration among ASEAN member countries. The organization aims to promote cooperation in the oil and gas sector, enhance regional energy security, and address shared energy challenges. ASCOPE members include Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement.
