June 9, 2024 – PT Pertamina (Persero) continues to demonstrate its commitment to becoming an inclusive company. This inclusivity is reflected in Pertamina's workforce diversity. Throughout 2023, Pertamina employed 19% women and 35% young workers, who are targeted to become future leaders at the Director level. Meanwhile, the percentage of disabled workers at Pertamina has reached 96% of the target, following Law No. 8 of 2016 on disabled workers in state-owned enterprises, which mandates a 2% employment rate.
Inclusivity involves creating a work environment open to all differences without discrimination. This policy will positively impact the business, such as increased productivity, creativity, and innovation.
“This inclusivity program aligns with Pertamina's goal of becoming a sustainable company. Beyond being inclusive, Pertamina's efforts to prepare Perwira (the term for Pertamina’s employees) to become company leaders demonstrate our seriousness in preparing the best talents who are technically skilled and possess agile, innovative leadership qualities with global competitiveness and a focus on sustainable business,” explained Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina.
Fadjar added that Pertamina also has an intensive program to enhance the competence and capability of its employees, thereby increasing the effectiveness and productivity of the company's performance.
Fadjar revealed that the inclusive worker's achievement has surpassed the set targets. The proportion of women in the talent pool for leadership roles has reached 19%, exceeding the target of 15.5%. Meanwhile, young workers targeted for leadership roles have reached 35%, surpassing the 25% target.
“The young workers in the talent pool have demonstrated professional performance and have good experience and track records. Young workers are a key focus for Pertamina as they represent the company's future,” he added.
Human resources (HR) is also a critical aspect of a sustainable company. In ESG (environmental, social, governance) assessments, HR policies and their implementation are major evaluation indicators. This focus has contributed to Pertamina's positive ESG ranking by Sustainalytics, with Pertamina's score in 2023 improving to 20.7 (Medium Risk) from 22.1 (Medium Risk). A lower Sustainalytics score indicates a better risk level.
“With this increase in the Sustainalytics score, Pertamina's ESG risk ranking has risen to first place globally in the Integrated Oil and Gas sub-industry among 61 global companies,” said Fadjar.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
