Yogyakarta, December 17, 2023 - Nicke Widyawati, President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Persero, along with the Pertamina Group Board of Directors and the Editor-in-Chief (Pemred) of National Media, visited one of Pertamina's Independent Energy Villages (Desa Energi Berdikari or DEB), the Village Economic Center (Balai Ekonomi Desa or Balkondes) in Wringinputih, Magelang, on Saturday, December 16, 2023.
Nicke revealed that Pertamina, as a State-Owned Enterprise, not only upholds its commitment to providing and developing new and renewable energy, but also has social responsibility towards communities in its operational areas, including Yogyakarta.
"In addition to focusing on Pertamina's business, there are other aspects we do. Because the energy transition is not just about Pertamina but about the community of Indonesia, we must invite all components of society to contribute together to the energy transition. One example is Balkondes Wringinputih in Yogyakarta," she said.
During their visit, the Directors of Pertamina Group and around 40 national media editors engaged in a unique activity – batik making on fabric. Interestingly, this batik-making session was taught by a resident with a disability.
"Today, we learned to make batik with residents with disabilities. Pertamina is currently committed to empowering women and people with disabilities so that they can continue to be self-sufficient and contribute to improving the economy both for their families and their villages," Nicke added.
Wawan, one of the residents, shared that before learning to make batik, he was a victim of bullying in school. Batik became a way for him to regain self-confidence, and he is proud to have acquired the skill despite being a person with disabilities.
"I used to be bullied a lot in school, to the point where I didn't want to go to school for a year. But when I got to know batik and tried to learn, it increased my self-confidence. The batik also enabled me to earn money and help my parents. I am proud, even as a person with disabilities, I have a skill that not everyone may possess," he explained.
Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication, explained that the visit was part of the series of events for the Pemred Gathering initiated by Pertamina. In addition to visits to MSMEs and Balkondes, the editors also received explanations from Pertamina Subholding and its subsidiaries regarding the Pertamina Group's business, discussed the latest energy developments, and engaged in interactive discussions. Visits were also made to several MSME products supported by Pertamina, mainly in the Yogyakarta and Central Java regions, to observe Pertamina's direct contributions to the community.
"From the Pemred Gathering event, Pertamina gained positive insights. Therefore, it is hoped that Pertamina can increasingly contribute to advancing the industry, contributing to society, and supporting sustainability to achieve the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target and the economic development of Indonesia," Fadjar said.
The presence of editors in Yogyakarta was also to participate in the Pertamina Journalism Awards 2023, held on Friday, December 15. This annual event is the culmination of the journalistic competition of Insan Pers throughout Indonesia, with Pertamina receiving 2,559 works for selection.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
