Jakarta, June 4, 2024 - PT Pertamina (Persero) is collaborating with various parties to develop sustainable energy in the new Nusantara Capital City (IKN). Leading the energy transition, Pertamina strives to create a sustainable energy ecosystem in IKN, aiming to achieve IKN’s vision as the world's best city while contributing to Indonesia's Net Zero Emission (NZE) targets.
"Facing future climate challenges, innovation in sustainable energy needs to be enhanced. Pertamina is focused on developing these innovations through various means, from preparing sustainability-driven talents to promoting research into alternative energy sources," explained Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso.
To accelerate this sustainable energy vision, Pertamina is fostering synergy with various entities, including government institutions, foreign and national business partners, as well as universities and academics both domestically and internationally.
Fadjar revealed that the commitment to building sustainable energy in IKN aligns with IKN's concept of a Smart City Forest. This commitment was marked by a Memorandum of Understanding signing regarding the Pertamina Sustainable Energy Center establishment with the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority in September 2023.
Pertamina has partnered with the Bakrie Group to develop the Nusantara Sustainability Hub. Both parties are open to collaborating with universities to enrich research in the sustainability sector, including green and low-emission technology utilization.
Collaboration is also being pursued by Pertamina's sub-holdings, such as Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), which has partnered with the IKN Authority to conduct joint studies, supporting IKN’s development with a modern, green, and sustainable concept through nature-based and ecosystem solutions. Pertamina NRE is also collaborating with Fairatmos to develop and implement nature-based carbon emission reduction projects, eventually aiming to build technology for carbon market development.
Meanwhile, Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) is preparing the household gas network programs development to support clean energy provision in IKN. It follows the government's mandate to Pertamina as the Oil and Gas Holding in the Government Core Area (KIPP IKN), with PGN, as Pertamina's gas sub-holding, playing a role in fulfilling the gas network needs for residences and official housing for ministers and employees in IKN.
"Pertamina, through PGN, is also ready to collaborate with various parties to develop IKN in terms of building natural gas infrastructure, which is a clean energy source," added Fadjar.
Pertamina's efforts in IKN will continue. Through synergy, the Pertamina Group will develop various potentials to support the government's targets in realizing a quality future for IKN and Indonesia.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
